backup camera

has anyone become more familiar with the backup camera? is it officially an option that cannot be added after the fact? I know i can install a generic one but wanted to try the MB one first if it can be done.

Considering how hard a number of local dealers tried to locate a car that had a back-up camera (and all of my other desired options), I have to believe that the dealer cannot install it. Otherwise, at least one of the dealers would have offered to do so to sell me a car.

Strange .... the W221 has a retrofit kit. So it must be the head unit since in Rest of World there is only a matter of dealing with the relevant parts.

It is in fact possible in a EURO car to fit the W221 module with the parking guide over the image.

Nothing that it is possible to get a car built in the USA with a camera then it is actually possible in the same way as it is in the Euro head units.

Therefore the answer is .... speak to MBENZNL

If you want W221 style technology (with the lines showing your trajectory) then you will want the W221 kit in your ML.

Hi Wolfgang. I will be attempting the install of the Japanese (W164) rear camera module into the W245 B-Class (same basic head unit).

The controller for Japan ML is the same one as for the W221. It also has the function of two cameras at the same time.

This more advanced module has the parking lines over the image.

Here is the view in the S Class camera with the guide lines...they change for parallel and back-in parking.

No definitive answers but I would doubt that there is a MB retro fit for the rear view camera in the GL. Aftermarket maybe with some jury rigging?
