Why did you go with the GL320 CDI over the GL450?

Why did you go with the GL320 CDI over the GL450?

I have a GL450 on order. I am wondering for those that have ordered or bought the GL320 CDI...why did you go with the 320 over the 450?

I know the GL320 CDI does more MPG, which is amazing! But;
-Isn't it less powerful? or dare I say underpowered? I haven't driven the 320, so I might be completely off.
-Isn't it more expensive since they're new and there are less of them?

Please share your knowledge and research.

Thanks.

I went strickly for the fuel savings, towing ability and b/c I've always wanted a diesel. I saved a few extra bucks along the way. Nothing wrong with that.

Less than a week old but I'm very happy and think the 320 is more the adequate to pull this monster.

Q & R
Power or Torque?

I won't talk about the MPG advantages since that is obvious - but which is more important to you in a truck? Horsepower or torque? The V8 HP rating is much higher than the V6 diesel, but the diesel torque curve is very fat which makes that energy available immediately even at the low RPM ranges. The max HP rating of an engine (gas or diesel) is usually found near the max RPM limits of the engine. You really have to compare torque curves to see the "feel in the pants". In a drag race, the diesel is a goner because it runs out of breath at the higher RPMs (hear those semi drivers shifting 10 times just to cross the intersection?) but for hauling loads, the V6 diesel is as good or better than the V8. Diesels also retain closer to their gas mileage figures under heavy load conditions than gas engines. So if your needs are for hauling a lot of people/stuff/towing, and not necessarily for beating the next guy to the stop light, the diesel is the better choice. I drove a GL320 CDI and the passing power is amazing. Could not believe it was a 3.2 liter V6 moving nearly 6000 lbs.

All the more reason. Just in time for your question.
Car & Driver Jan 2007 Review

In the comparison-test-winning (Top-Rung Sport-Utes, October 2006) GL-class, however, the GL320 diesel is actually the cheapest in the lineup, the only other choice is the GL450 with a 335-hp 4.7-liter V-8. Starting at $53,175, the diesel GL actually saves $2500 as well as boosting fuel economy ratings by 40 percent—from 14/18 city/highway to 20/25.
