Chrome handles and crossbars, What Package

Hi, I'm new here but have been reading for months. Took delivery of a GL on Jan.12. When it got to the dealer it had the chrome door handles and crossbars. What package includes these options as I was pleasantly surprised and said nothing to the salesman fearing they would take them off!

AFAIK, those are accessories only and not a part of any package.

There is a chrome package for the factory and the charge is $70 and includes the door guards. The Code is 070. He did not say anything a about the cross bars though. Maybe the chrome cross bars are standard with the Appearance Pkg.

What all is included in the Chrome Package 070, aside from the door handles? Are those the "behind the handle chrome guards" or actual chrome handles?

As far as I know the factory chrome package only includes the chrome door guards (behind the handle) like shown on the Accessory Page on MBUSA.

Hmmm, the BYO site lists those for $52 vs $70 from the factory.

I think I just answered my own question. My window sticker lists 070 Chrome pkg $85, then it lists R55 Appearance pkg-19" wheels, Skid plates & Black Crossbars. I'll try to read more before I post a question in the future.

Your OP said you had chrome crossbars but R55 says black. If you have chrome crossbars, maybe they upgrade to chrome if R55 is ordered with 070. That could also explain why yours was $85 vs $79 vs $70 vs $52??

The handle guards are chrome but the crossbars are black. The window sticker also states "Black Crossbars" in small letters beside "R55 Appearance Package".

So does anyone know for sure about how you get the chrome crossbars?? They do add a little bit to the car and I would like to have them. The GL i just ordered will have the chrome package but I believe that is just for the door handles. Correct me if I am wrong.

Also, the European version of the GL has chrome around the windows, whereas the US version has black trim? Any word on how to change that to the chrome?

Thanks

For those that have the skid plates from the R55 package - are they glossy stainless steel or more of a dull look. Shiney finish or buff?

More of a dull finish. I guess you would say it's like the finish in the kitchen sink!!!

WTF?

Anyone care to make it 2 out of 3? I wouldn't want them if they were shiny, but dull would be nice.

Sorry boxboss! After taking a second look, the skid plates have a finish that's between aluminum and chrome. When clean you can actually see a reflection in them. The finish is smooth. I would get them anyway. To me it just adds a sport look. I don't like bling either. It blends well with the 19" titanium wheels. Get the PE running boards if wife and kids will use. Wish I had them and the bumper plate would be nice too.

I've decided against the R55. The bumper plate is a must IMO. Even though my son's old enough to have his own GL and his own kids, I'm still getting the PE running boards!

I'll be putting on some aftermarket wheels, so a decent portion of the R55 would be wasted. Based on posts on this forum about wind noise from the crossbars, I wouldn't install those either. So, the skid plates would be the only benefit I'd get from R55 ($1100) and I'm sure the skid plates will/are available from the dealer for less than that. Plus, I'm not into shiny/chrome at all and that finished the skid plates for me. I will get the chrome trunk handle, but in satin finish!

I am looking for that too. GL Accessory Catalog, that came with car, listed these skid plates as separate accessories.

I have the chrome package & comparing to other trucks on the lot, besides the door-handle gaurds I also have chrome screw caps on my license plate frames. Not worth much, but a difference none the less.
