I agree that I did get lucky. They took my trade on the date I made the deal. I paid them in cash for the trade. They loaned me an R class to drive until the new car came in. All in all, it was a strange deal. It is strange to pay for a car in full when you do not know when it will arrive.
It was pretty expensive ($71990 list) and it has every possible option except Distronic and Keyless Go.
I wanted to tell you that the dealer was able to tell me within a day or two when the truck would be in. The dealer was notified when it was assigned to a truck, when the build was complete, and when the order status changed to red.
So if you have a build date of 4/26, it is overwhelmingly likely that you will indeed have your truck by the first week of May.

My status is now B3 (Paint Frozen) and the next status will be B4 (Production). The order changed to Red about a week or so ago.
Since the car will be delivered in Colorado, it will depend on how soon it gets on a truck (or train) and how long the trip is across country. I hope you are correct but I think the 2nd week of May is more realistic...

Not list, but close.....
I paid $2000 less than sticker but I am not sure that the dealer didn't make a lot of money on my trade, even though he gave me more than KBB said the Lexus was worth.... ( '06 LX 470 with 14K miles and every option). The dealer did not know the car had had some body damage, very minor, that the Lexus dealer had taken care of at delivery, and they did not appear to reduce the value of the trade for dents in the driver door and the rear bumper.... so as it is with so many trade deals, I really don't know what I paid. I do think I got a fair deal, especially since they loaned me an R350 until my car came in at no cost...but I love my GL and I'm really glad to be out of the Lexus...costly mistake to have bought it...I wish I had kept the 'Slade....

Ordered GL320 CDI on Dec 21, 2006
- As of 20 March 07, my build date is 14 June 07 and my Netstar code is BA
- As of 22 Feb 07, my build date was first decade (first 10 days) of June and code A4
- At various points between 21 Dec and 22 Feb, I was given estimated build dates of March or April or May.
Well, the good news is that I have an actual build date and it didn't move out too much in the past month. The bad news is that it'll be 6+ months total from order to delivery. This GL better be worth the wait.
Consolation prize: Hopefully they'll work out all the first-year GL production bugs by the middle of June. I think they started building GL's around spring 2006.

"Supplier issues" are blamed for the delay. MB can't or won't tell the dealer which option has the supply issues. I ordered pewter paint, ash MB Tex interior, P1 package, sunroof, KG, rear camera, voice control and HID headlights.
If not for the $4000 discount off MSRP, I'd tell them to keep it. I'm unlikely to find another GL320 in that timeframe with my options for that price.

The saga continues. My build date is now July 9 (instead of June 14) and Netstar code is still BA.

Just got back from the dealer and got some additional info, including this tidbit:
According to Netstar, the 2008 GL320s will be built starting in the first 10 days of July. (But my GL320 with a July 9 build date will still be a 2007 model.)
This immediately raises the question of why my GL will be a 2007 instead of 2008. The regional rep told my salesman that he thinks the July build dates for 2008 models are overly optimistic and production on 2008 GL320's probably won't happen before August or September.
No word on when non-diesel 2008 models start production, but I assume that it's in the same timeframe as the diesels.
And they still can't say what specifically is causing the delays on the 2007 diesel models.

They will be CDI's, not Bluetec. It will be mid-2008 or maybe later before we see the approved and certified Bluetec's for 50 state sale. EPA has indicated they want the infrastructure for the UREA support in place and also the manufacturers must design and have EPA appove the low UREA warning systems and other EPA dictated components installed in the cars.
I also doubt that MB will go through the certification process for the 420CDI but wait for US introduction of the Bluetec so they can sell it in all 50 states. I have been wrong before trying to figure out MB though...:-)

Oh I'm sure you're right about the GL420, especially since they previewed it as a Bluetec, no need to do a CDI model and then a Bluetec. They'll wait. I bet Mercedes can't stand the EPA at this point.
