Thought I read somewhere on the board that you Can't put bio-diesel in the GL320...one of the GL320 owners should be able to verify.

I would definitely check the manual. Manufacturers tend to be conservative when it comes to changes in fuel. A warranty is a terrible thing to waste.

Now warrantees aside, bio-diesel in any concentration will actually run smoother in a new engine due its to greater lubricative properties. MPG should also improve a bit, but I have any personal measurements to base this upon. Now some warnings, the higher the concentration of bio, the higher the gel temp of the fuel - for example 100% bio becomes slush in the winter. Never introduce bio into an older engine - it's a stronger solvent and will clog the injectors with all of the deposits in an old fuel system.

As to my personal expereince with bio is that I run 100% bio in the warm months and 0% bio in the winter in my utility tractor. In my case the manufacturer only approves 5% bio, but it runs really smooth with 100% bio. (I didn't really worry about the warranty. ) The one of various blends of 5,10,20% should be available depending on the local suppliers in your area. I'm lucky enough have to one of rare 100% bio filling stations in the country only 3 miles from my house.

B5 OK per MB as of 19 Jan 2007...

The official MB position statement on biodiesel can be found on www.biodiesel.org. B20 has not yet been approved, but I am waiting!

I am asking because I am a 320 owner....

BTW - MB approves of B5 as of right now. Changes on higher grades are in the works.

Mercedes-Benz Position on Biodiesel
As of January 19, 2007
Mercedes-Benz USA now approves the use of B5 biodiesel (standard diesel with a maximum 5 %
biodiesel content) in all Common Rail Injection Diesel "CDI-engines" – including BLUETEC engines.
As biodiesel can be refined from a variety of raw materials resulting in widely varying properties, the
only approved biodiesel content is one that meets the ASTM D6751 specification and that has
additionally the necessary oxidation stability (min. 6h, proved with EN14112 method ) to prevent
damages to the system from deposits and/or corrosion.
Please ask your service station for further information. If the B5 biodiesel blend is not sufficiently labeled
to clearly indicate that it meets the above standards, please do not use it. The Mercedes-Benz limited
warranty does not cover damage caused by the use of fuels not meeting Mercedes-Benz approved fuel
standards.
