Gl450 mpg

I'm curious what MPG other owners are experiencing with their GL450's. I was driving my wifes GL450 PE tonight and noticed that she's only getting about 13 mpg. Granted, she drives mostly around town but I expected a bit more than the 14 mpg that we saw in our previous vehicle, a Yukon XL Denali.

Thanks.

I do mostly rural driving plus a mix highway & in-town stop-n-go and I'm seeing 17-18mpg according to the computer. I haven't verified if the computer is correct yet. I also only have only 1500 miles, so I'm far from having the engine boken in as far as mpg is concerned.

I get about 15 to 16 and I do about half the time on Freeways and half the time on surface streets.

Depends where I'm going.
My wife has been driving our PE lately and she seems to get 13-14 as well with in-town driving. I get around 15-16 with mostly highway driving @ 85 mph avg. I used to get about 12-14 with my 04 Denali XL so I have to admit, I am with you when you say that it's a little disappointing. Then again, when you are looking at sub 13-16mpg, what difference does it make? It sucks any way you look at it. Also, my wife has a lead foot!

Thanks for the feedback; Since my wife drives almost exclusively in stop and go driving, it appears that we are getting the typical city mpg. My wife has a lead foot as well so I'm sure that doesn't help.

I'm going from a Grand Cherokee that gets 13 around town and 18 at best on the highway............similar numbers in the Gl450 which has more space, more comfort and, surprisingly, more traction capability........sounds good to me! My Toyota Prius takes care of the "milage guilt" for me!

EPA Revised Ratings

This is from the EPA site and look about what is being reported above on the GL450.

Here is the GL320CDI

From what I have seen owners are reporting closer to the Old figures for the diesel rather than the new?

I'm getting about 15-16 MPG combined which coincides with the EPA report. I do more city driving than highway driving. Whenever I take the GL out for a long drive, I get ~18 MPG in mostly highway driving.

17.6mpg - 75% highway (70-85mph) 25% local. My experience has been very close to numbers posted by car mags and almost identical to results shown by car computer. On a rural road doing a steady 45mph computer indicated 24mpg.

My 320hp SRX has averaged 18.6 the past 18 months - 75% city/25% highway - and easily gets 22-23 on road trips at 80-85mph. I didn't bother checking the mpg on the GL, it wouldn't have changed my mind anyway.

The downside to the SRX is a puny 19 gal tank! Range is important to me. Without having to find it, what is the fuel capacity of the GL450?

Both the GL450 and the GL320CDI have 26.4 gallon tanks.

BTW, the diesel GL get 20/25 per the sticker...

Wife's new GL is getting 13.5-13.9 in the city.
Not too good. But then again, the thing feels like a tank when I am driving it. Nice and safe. Highway, don't expect more than 17-18 if you go 85mph.

CA to Arizona. Around 17.5-18 at 85mph including 250 city driving in Arizona.

So, I drove down to OC yesterday to get my Bumper plate on with help from L8Apex (who is a great guy, BTW). I got a shade over 20 mpg on the entire 150 mile round trip. Average speed was 47 or 57 mph. For comparison, my wife's Volvo (S80 - T6) gives about 23/24 on long trips. I was very happy and guess now know what car will end us as family hauler on road trips.

Mine is giving 23MPG on Highway with 55MPH speed. I will record the MPG with 50MPH speed and post it here tomorrow.

Darn it.......that lead foot is costing me more. I just knew it and now it has been confirmed.

Jokes aside, that is some serious mileage. What is the length of your trip?

we drove approximately 70 miles on I-80 from New Jersey to PA with 2 persons(including driver).

on return I tried with 50MPH speed for 45 Miles and returned 25.5MPG. But it was very boring to drive at those speeds.. with GL

Come on...who drives on an Interstate at 50 mph for 45 miles in real life...:-)

amgbg post above are more represenative of what mileage one can expect from the GL450. Based on this I think the diesel will show it's advantages.

It will be interesting to see what the GL550 EPA figures are? That engine with the 7 speed tranny is a great combination. I know on my S I took a 5000 mile cross country trip and averaged 25.8 at an average speed of 63 mph for the entire trip including all city miles and highway speeds in the 70-85 mph range. Here is a shot of the display at the completion of the trip. I would not expect the GL550 to do this due to the 4 wheel drive and additional weight.

After 1000 miles mixed I'm seeing about 14 mpg. I replaced an XL Denali also. I'll have to find another way to reduce my carbon footprint.

IMO, you will see an improvement in mileage past 3K miles. It won't be much but I am noticing that I now rarely dip below 15 in city driving.

I just got done with a weekend trip, Las Vegas to Los Angeles and back (~270 miles one way.) The recorded MPG was 18.2 MPG for the whole trip (mostly freeway) and I only went under 80 MPH twice while in the freeway due to CHiPs (I love my radar, and it seems to work properly even with the OEM UV tinted windows.)
