Yes, you can play MP3s on CD Changer but you don't get any functionality like viewing folders, selecting folders, etc. CD Changer treats an MP3 CD as a "flat" CD and ignores all the folder structure. It starts playing at the first file and goes in that order.
My $0.02 - an iPod and iPod kit are much much better.

If you didn't get factory ipod kit then checkout this thread about halfway through. There are some better options available aftermarket.

According to the manual - you'll want to use cd-r or cd-rw. You can make folders - although you are limited to 99 songs per cd. I burned a 64 song blues cd and put it into the changer and see the song title on the command console. I used iTunes and it didn't make folders.
I'll try again by dragging and dropping into folders. There are some other limitations as well the manual describes it in detail.
