Post The new Audi Q7 4.2 TDI, any thoughts?

The new Audi Q7 4.2 TDI has 561 lb/ft of torque, and is a pretty decent ride. Any thoughts?

Also, isn't there an even more powerful V-10 option with over 737 lb/ft of torque available also? Would any of you consider this car over a 2008 model GL 550 or GL 420 CDI?

I looked very closely at the Q7 vs the GL450 and test drove one 3 times before settling on the GL. I'm sure the TDI models will be stump pulling monsters and if equivalent engines were offered by MB I probably would have ordered the GL with a diesel. The interior on the Q7 was beautiful and true Audi quality. Ride was great too. For me, aside from engine options, I just couldn't get myself to like the front end styling on the Q7, really over done and massive. It reminds me of a Lincoln Navigator coming at you down the road, "here I come". Just my opinion. The GL is just more subtle and less bold which works for me. On the other hand, I would love the HP/torque, and give me the B&O sound system. No regrets on the GL. Just my $.02

For me (kids, reason to actually need 3rd row), i sat in the Q7 at the Detroit auto show in 06, the 3rd row is a joke, and i mean almost cruel to kids...there is no way the Q7 comes close to useable cargo room that GL has...

The Audi V-8 TDi is a lovely car with a powerful and high torque engine.

Problem is it uses the same 2008 MY Bluetec (& AdBlue) systems as MB and has to be treated with great care. For instance the oil requirement is paramount to keeping the emission system intact. If you are on the highway and short of oil you need to replenish the engine with LOW ASH engine oil. If you put in ordinary oils your Bluetec-AdBlue system will be beaten Black and Blue. A few thousand dollars for parts alone?? There are 4 filters there guys.

There has to be a better way. The AdBlue system sounds like a guy with a colostomy bag. It collects the shjt alright but it is best to be able to dump the stuff right into the toilet.

For us it was a combo of 3rd row seating and exterior style that drove us to GL over Q7. Q7's interior was very nice, no doubt, and I loved the panoramic roof. But like carpersn said, 3rd row was a deal breaker.

I, too, looked at the Q7. For me, not enough cargo room w/3rd row down (couldn't fit 3 big dogs in it) and the nearest Audi dealer is more than 50 miles from where I live.
