I purchased my GL320 on the 10th of this month but it was a January production vehicle that had been returned after ~400 miles as an LPGA program car. I know that makes it a bit vague, because I did purchase it this month even though it's nearly five months old already, and if I'm hearing correctly here most of the trucks were built in January, but them's the facts.

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

No one really knows if the latest hose works or not. That is why I cancelled my delivery. Someone posted that his failure occurred at 7000 miles so it can happen quickly or not so quickly and maybe not at all. I pesonally do not think MB's knows if their current solution will work long term or not.

It looks like Danno and Missmush's GL320 will be our test case. Mine is scheduled to be built July 9 (07 model) and I'm not aware of any other pending GL320 deliveries on the board before mine. So I'll be the next test case. Then you'll be after me.

I'm hanging on until I see more data from Danno and others. The final decision on whether to accept my GL320 will probably be made just prior to delivery. That's about 2 months from now.

At this point, I don't think anybody can say whether MB has fixed the problem. They will implement new hoses as a running change...not waiting for the next model year. In fact, it sounds like the 08 GL320 will be identical to the 07 except for options being packaged differently and probably a model year price increase.

I hate to give the same response I gave on another thread, but my GL 320 has 3500 miles on in without a hitch. It was delivered 3/25 so I suspect it had a build date of 3/20 or so. (I live in Chattanooga, only about two hours from Vance.) Another member (drcrna) said he has 3000 miles on his as well without trouble.

As i've posted, my breakdown (with Q2 hose) was last week. Because of the awesome response of my dealer, and my belief that MB is working diligently to address this, i'm keeping the faith. I now have Q2 Level II, and i know that my case has been elevated. It's a machine-machines have defects; even ones that cost $75k- I don't buy the argument that it has to be perfect or they have failed in designing it-these guys KNOW diesels, and i am confident that the problem will be solved.

This is a known list of members here affected: AutoSaurus, carpersn, sgresser, tutone. Anyone else? I know Marc (Strichachter)from Macon, GA but he is on the other MB forum.
MLorenz (the other forum) had this problem around the first of February.

I test drove a new GL 320 2 days ago and the hose blew during the test drive. Interesting a car would sit at a dealership and not be upgraded or if it was upgraded the upgrade did not work. I have an ordered GL 320 "ready for transport" that I'm going to cancel. The salesman did not know the extent of the problem and the service department did not return a call regarding how they would address my GL when it arrives.

Holy crud. What dealership is this you're talking about? I mean seriously, to have the TSB in hand when the truck arrives and not address the problem, how absolutely stupid of them!

I spoke with the dealership today, the GL I test drove has been sold yesterday with the TSB fix. These GL 320's are in demand in my area, DC.

My salesman faxed a copy of the service bulletin dated 4/9/07. He assured me this problem will be addressed and not to worry. I'll get that in writing and buy the GL, as I can't find another vehicle I like as much, period.

The dealership is American Service Center in Alex, VA. They have the best service department and I have not doubt about their goal of customer satisfaction after the sale.

Before the dealer applies the April 9 TSB, be sure to have him look at the hose as it comes from the factory. I just took delivery of a May 16 build date, and it has a hose marked Q3 with a different clamp than shown in the TSB. Appears to be another revision (assuming they assign the Q numbers in order, of course).

Yes, if it's got the Q3 then tell them to LEAVE IT ALONE!

That's good to hear that Q3 hoses are now shipping. Seems like someone saw a pattern.

The GL 320 I ordered will be in this week or next. I'll be sure to get a service manager check the hose clamp. This will make it easier to monitor any changes or future modifications when and if something else happens.

800 miles, 2 weeks of ownership- blown hose

I can't report on the build date because the vehicle is still at the dealer, but I picked it up off the lot on June 1st so I'm thinking May build date. Now I've got to deal with them to compensate me for 2 weeks of the car being missing (new parts coming from Germany.)

I'm a little concerned about Colorado driving causing extra pressure on these hoses. I drive up and down the I70 hill West of Denver all the time where it climbs about 2000 ft over about 8 or 10 miles. This can put a lot of stress on an engine and when I broke down I was not on that hill but another fairly steeply inclining highway.

I'm just sick that I can't rely on this vehicle not to strand my wife and kids on the highway somewhere. It's too bad because I don't see anything else out there that compares to the GL320 as far as comfortably seating 7 people, safety and the fuel economy while still being able to handle that uphill climb at full highway speeds.

Sorry to hear about your hose problem. What dealer in CO did you buy the GL from?

Devers, you said that you bought it off the lot. Was it a new car or was it used? Maybe a demo model?

I know you said you can't find the build date because it's in the shop, but this is very useful information once you can get it. Also, knowing which hose (Q1, Q2 or Q3) tells a lot. If it's a Q1 or Q2, then I'm not surprised it blew so quickly. If a Q3, then yours would be the first Q3 on this board to fail. But I don't want to jump to conclusions without more info.

Devers -

What was the last part of the VIN? By no later than A277481, they were building the GL320 with the Q3 hose.

The build date is on a small plate on the drivers side door frame...month and year.

2007 GL 320 CDI, 2008 M5
My GL 320 has 5000 miles on it so far without any trouble. I took it in yesterday for the 5000 mile check and asked the dealer to check which hose I have. It is a Q2. Again, no problems, and I have been known to go 85 or 90 for extended periods on the interstate. The build date was 3/14/07.

The dealer had not heard of this issue until I asked the service manager if they had any problems. He searched NetStar and found a service bulletin on the Q1 hose. The SB says that every GL 320 should be checked for a Q1 hose and if your car has it then it MUST be replaced.

So MBUSA is aware of the problem but they are not pushing a recall and are not actively advising the dealers. My dealer was very nice about it and showed me the hose number. They thanked me for letting them know about it and said they would check each GL 320 as it comes in for the Q1 hose.
