How much off MSRP on '07 GL320 cdi's

As the last batch of '07's wind through dealerships, does the discount off '07 GL320 cdi's MSRP become greater as the closer the '08's arrive at the dealership.

I could take delivery next week of a $65K GL320 and receive a $1500 off MSRP, but should that discount be larger as we get closer to August ('08's GL320 cdi's) ? I plan on keeping the vehicle no more then a year - when the ''09's show up which I assume around August/September '08 and hopefully will be the GL420 cdi.

Selling an '07 in August '08 will be a greater depreciation then selling an early build '08? Correct? Both would have about the same 10K miles.

Regardless, you will take a HUGE PLUNGE selling an MB after just one year!!!

This is true even if you are going to sell an early built MY 08 in August 08, especially with 10K miles. You are going compete with MB dealers who sell late built MY 08 with zero mile and more than likely with large incentives (for end of year model sales).

Also you should anticipate to pay full or close to MSRP for an '09 GL420 CDI in August '08.

Either way, it will be MB dealers who make all the profits.

Do you think that is the case with selling a pre-owned GL320 in CA with 7500 miles? From the very fee e320 cdi's that the dealer had used with 7500 miles, they were selling for msrp or a little over.

I was asking my dealer about this here in Arizona. Nearly all of the demo cars that they lend out during local events, like the Phoenix Open Golf tournament, and also the vehicles that the dealership owners drive are diesels.

With the proximity to California, they know that they can drive them up to 7500 miles and then sell them to California dealerships and auto resellers and get at least what they pay for them, if not more!

I would be willing to bet that I could probably put 7500 miles on my GL diesel and sell it in California for more than I paid for it!

It is exactly my points here:

MB dealers have a way of marketing and selling previously owned vehicles for huge profits. Plus those CDI cars (with 7500 miles or more) are already located in CA and ready to be dealt for quick sales.

Whereas, if your car is located outside of CA, a potential buyer will have to deal with paypal method, financing, transportation, while test driving and inspection of your vehicle performance (say for the popular hose problems) are not easy and feasible. A seller outside of CA will have to low their asking price TREMENDOUSLY in order to attract buyers. A buyer will look for a huge discount otherwise he/she will rather buy one from an in-state CA MB dealer.

Also by next year, the bluetech cars (R, ML, GL and such) may be available to all 50 States (including CA) as MY 2009, with sales to start in late CY 2008.

Again this is only my best guess. Or you can go with your gut feeling and GO FOR IT.

Good luck and cheers!

what is MY 2009? I agree with you. I reside half the time in Southern California where the car will be back and forth to AZ.

MY 2009 stands for model year 2009.

Also, please don't forget that all the new car sale taxes, fees, and finance charges (if any) are GONE the very first day that you drive your new car off the dealer's lot. If I am not wrong, California, Arizona, and Nevada are in the bottom 3 of the 50 states in terms of highest fees and taxes for new car sales. Typically this is somewhere around $7K for a loaded GL.

I think that I wil be able to get MSRP after 10-12 months of usage, which means I eat the tax. No finance charges. If the '09's are start o get marketed in August '08, will bring more intetrest to a car they can have now with no dealer markups?

Just my opinion....
