Radar detectors and glass in the GL

I have noted that my Escort 8500 does not seem to pick up radar from the windshield of the GL as well as it did from the LX 470 I traded for the GL. Is there some kind of coating on the glass that interferes with radar detectors? If so, is there a spot on the windshield that will allow optimum radar detection?

If you have three-zone A/C, then you also have infra-red glass. In the manual (and you can see if them if you get up close) there are two or three "spots" without the coating-one is right above the Parktronic display on the dash-that's where i put my Passport Solo and it works VERY well!

I mounted mine at the top of my windshield as outlined in the post from the manual.

As usual, I got the right info from you guys. I put mine right above the parktronic sensor and it works SO much better. Thanks!!

Does the 3 zone IR glass thus render a the side/rear radar and multi-direction arrows of a Valentine 1 useless then ? I find that feature very useful on all my long highway drives.
