GL550 Deal and Option Question

Hello. I am new to this forum, and have learned a lot from you guys in the last few days.

Yesterday I ordered 2 GL550s for $500 over invoice, both black with black interior. The salesman at my local Mercedes dealer (in Reno, NV) was very nice and said that it would take about 12 weeks to get the trucks. Does this sound like an ok deal, and does the time frame seem correct?

The trucks are the same, except that on one I added the rear entertainment screens. I noticed that in the new 2008 Mercedes SUV brochure, that there is an option on the GL550 for the heated steering wheel, but the salesman didn't see that option available on his computer. Does anyone know if this is an option or not?

Thanks a lot.

Welcome to the forum.

Your deal sounds good but the timeframe seems too long. Doesn't the dealer have some earlier allocations that he can change to fit your needs?

And, about the heated steering wheel, please take a number for your turn to vent about how MBUSA creates option packages for their cars. Trust me, you will soon find out. Since 550 comes standard with the wood wheel, I don't believe you can get a heated wheel. At this point, I can throw in the heating package in the mix and that will really mix it up I think the brochure might mention heated wheel as available for 450 and not 550. So, if you pay more for a car you get less choices, that's the MB way.

Did I say welcome?

They will be company cars. I have a family owned business, one for me and one for my father. I tried to get him to go with silver, but he liked the black too.

Instead of trading with another dealer, we opted to just go ahead and order them. Our dealer had not recieved any yet, and felt it would be a little hard to find 2 trucks exactly like we wanted.

Does the 12 weeks sound about right to have a new car built and delinered?

Thank goodness for personal businesses and the tax perks... really nice that your Dad and you get to have these perks.. 12 weeks unfortunately sounds about right for delivery.. These are hot items.. I would however push for even more of a price break since you're combined purchase will about $170K and that ain't peanuts last I checked

Welcome to the forum and your deal is a good one. I only have 1% under MSRP.

You can get the heated steering wheel, but you'll have to forgo the wood/leather combo if you decide to go that way.
