Hey guys I read all of the GL threads almost faithfully every night after work dont post much because I get home late dont have to alot of time to post. I also have a GL 550 on order for an early OCT. delivery. ( OB Black on Black ).The deal with that life time subscription for SIRIUS is NON-TRANSFERABLE its only good for that unit each unit has a seperate ESN number. I my self have six subscriptions its the best. I also heard if the merge does go through for XM and Sirius they might offer an A la Carte menu meaning pay for what you want to only listen to. I was Just reading the fine print and you could keep that subscription for lifetime, they will still charge you 75 dollars each time you switch out a unit.

That is how they are trying to placate the FTC to get approval for the merger. I hope it goes through, because I use XM and I'd love to have the flexibility of getting the same channels, regardless of which radio is being used. I've got my favorites and I really don't want to find something similar on Sirius. However, I would like the access to the NFL.

Thanks for the post husband!

I had XM in my LX, I have it in my Excursion and it's in my wife's RX. Sirius is in the GL. I've found signal to be much more robust with the XM than it is with the Sirius. For instance, go under an overpass in XM and unless you're stuck at a light you're not losing signal. Have a stray cloud go overhead with the Sirius and it seems to lose it. Have you found the same?

I definitely agree! Almost every bridge I go under cuts out on Sirius, but rarely cuts out on XM. We got XM because they had NASCAR radio which is now on Sirius. On Sundays, my husband takes my GL to work (75 mile commute each way, which explains the Civic) so he can listen to the race on his commute.

Welcome to the board, husband (you can thank Stumble for that ) and wait till you get your 550. You will become a regular poster then.

And, I also recall reading that after the merger XM/Sirius will offer a la carte menu. I am all for it too. Haven't listened to half the channels on Sirius anyways. And, yes, Sirius loses signal when I am driving under young trees much less an overpass or clouds.

Here is the quote concerning transferring the life-time subscription (copied from Sirius).

"Subscribe for the lifetime of your radio! Pay ONLY $499.99 once and forget about bills. Plus, act soon and you can transfer your lifetime subscription to a different SIRIUS Receiver when you upgrade or replace your radio — up to three times — for only $75 per radio. Offer ends January 31, 2008. Hurry!"

My cost was $400, and I paid it the day I called to activate Sirius initially. Maybe it was a little cheaper since I did it the very first day rather waiting for the free trial to expire. Or maybe it was because they knew I had it already for a lifetime on another car. I don't know...Still, for $500, no monthly bills, and three transfers to other cars at $75 each, I think it's a good deal.

Heh - I can't do that because I have too vivid an imagination and suddenly I start driving like I'm in the race! Very tough to explain to the arresting officer, "But I was just trying to draft him until turn 2, where I was gonna get up underneath him, get him loose and put him into the wall!"

The days of commercial free sat rad are long gone, they have commercials on all but the music channels. Now they slide in promotions on the music channels promoting other channels, so it is like getting a commercial. When the merger is over sat rad will be same as FM. Sat rad has been headed down hill the last 5 years, subscriptions will not cover the overhead, the only hope is ad revenue.

I have subs to both, XM works 100% of the time even in underground parking. Sirius sucks if a bug flies over my antenna it clips out.

On the second point there, I do lose XM in most parking structures but it holds on and sometimes near the outside edges it kicks in again.

On the first point, I have to disagree for one big reason; drive I-10 out here in the great south west, or just about any highway outside of town, with an FM radio. Man, you'd better have an alternate source of entertainment! You can go hours without so much as a blip in the static. Up near Window Rock, you either like country music or Native American (which, honestly, is really good). Having sat radio on long drives really helps. As for how good Sirius is? I find when I'm in town, I've re-discovered local stations.

Enjoy Sirius Radio since having in in my R500. Since then paid for the service in my GL and CLK and even bought the portable sileto with a boom box.

And, have not listened to H Stern since I was in college and heard him once for 3 minutes when he was local host in DC in early '80s.

Just got sirius in my 7.. Wow there sure is a lot to choose from.. I don't even think I was looking at the road this morning since I was trying to digest all the channels.. Unfortunately got some dropping of reception here and there for a few seconds.. A little annoying, but what can one do.. Nothing is 100% perfect.. But i'm overall very happy that my ride has got a new toy!!! The 7 has new life.. Maybe next I'll change up the rims for some blingier ones or maybe add the sheepskin seat covers!!!!
