GL step-in height making easy access for children
I am coming out of an LR3 and have a "08 GL 320 on order. Wondering - anyone know the step-in height of the GL 320? Or better yet ....have a comparisn to the LR3? Is there the ability to manually lower the GL for step-in access? With the LR3 you have a nice feature that permits the suspension to lower the truck to make it easier for children, and grand parents etc. to get in. Any assitance is appreicated.

There is a difference between the "side step" and the "running boards" so make sure you are ordering the correct option. The side step is a round piece of chrome with 2 steps on each side. The running board extends along the entire length of the GL and is chrome with black anti-skid buttons on it.

Yes this helps - thanks. The LR3 sil is 16" off the ground with the susension lowered. So I will look at the running board option for the GL to make it easier for the kids to get in.

I agree. Get the running boards from factory. Dealer will charge you anywhere from $ 1200- $ 1500. I also agree with the looks.. I think the running borads add class and make the car look complete.

Like others have said, try to get the running boards as a factory installed option, it will save you money in the long run. Also, with the kids, the side running boards would be a better option b/c there are no holes for their feet to go through and potentially get stuck...good choice on the vehicle, it's the hottest selling product in our market (besides the new C-class)
