GL step-in height making easy access for children

I am coming out of an LR3 and have a "08 GL 320 on order. Wondering - anyone know the step-in height of the GL 320? Or better yet ....have a comparisn to the LR3? Is there the ability to manually lower the GL for step-in access? With the LR3 you have a nice feature that permits the suspension to lower the truck to make it easier for children, and grand parents etc. to get in. Any assitance is appreicated.

My children are 4 and 2 years old and they can climb into the GL450 from the side-step without any problem at all. The GL sits lower than my previous Lexus GX470 which my children had hard time climbing into. Just make sure you order your GL with the factory side-step. It was only a $500 option when I ordered my 2007 GL450.

I went from an LX470 (with three-level suspension, the lowest being to aid in getting in and out) to the GL. I'd say getting in to the GL is no problem, where the LX was a bit of a climb for some folks, especially my kids when they were younger - even in lowered height mode!

There is a difference between the "side step" and the "running boards" so make sure you are ordering the correct option. The side step is a round piece of chrome with 2 steps on each side. The running board extends along the entire length of the GL and is chrome with black anti-skid buttons on it.

Oops!!! I meant PE running board, not the side-step. Thanks for the correction.

Yes this helps - thanks. The LR3 sil is 16" off the ground with the susension lowered. So I will look at the running board option for the GL to make it easier for the kids to get in.

Prefo - get the boards when you get the car. It's only a $500 option but not only it will help with kids, it improves the looks tremendously as well.

I agree. Get the running boards from factory. Dealer will charge you anywhere from $ 1200- $ 1500. I also agree with the looks.. I think the running borads add class and make the car look complete.

Like others have said, try to get the running boards as a factory installed option, it will save you money in the long run. Also, with the kids, the side running boards would be a better option b/c there are no holes for their feet to go through and potentially get stuck...good choice on the vehicle, it's the hottest selling product in our market (besides the new C-class)

We have the factory running boards and it makes it no problem for our little one (and petite wife) to get in and out. I don't think it would be the same without.
