The pictures do not do justice to the nose which I think really blends nicely. The fascia additions especially on the side give it a great presence; there will be no mistaking this vehicle! It's hard to comprehend that something this large can post 0-60 times in the low 6 sec range- especially since it seems to dwarf the ML. More pictures to follow, I'm also looking forward to everyone's arrivals in different colors.

WOW- I'm glad I ordered white. Mine is coming next month with black interior; changed from ash. What color interior did you get? Please post pics when you get some time. I would love to especially see the white / black combination in some pics if that is your color combo.

GL550 (on order), Ferrari 308GTS, Lexus LX470, Ford Explorer
Talking about the ride.....It's riding a lot better than I thought it would. My feeling is that however you interpret the ride, when one considers the nature of the vehicle it is quite good. For the heck of it I've tried some off ramp "stuff" and I'm still a long way from where I would be concerned. Yeh, you feel bumps but not in a harsh manner. Also remember the teutonic attitude towards road feel. As an aside I felt the initial gas mileage ( local driving )was just short of dismal. Yesterday I did a 100 mile round trip with almost all highway driving . 17.8 MPG....made me feel a lot better. Obviously
it likes to keep going. High school physics..A body in motion......
I participted in a closed course test drive of the new " C " models. Neat vehicle . Too bad MB could not have incorporated the new Command electronics into our trucks.

I hope MB may insert the new NAV in the next years model which would be nice for those holding out for it and Distronic. Using a HD is faster and allows for the new feature of downloading trips directly using Tele Aid.

While I have not taken my 550 off road at all,
I do feel pot hole's and road bumps allot more then i ever did in my Range.
This is the only place where I am disappointed a tad! I would
think that the air suspension would handle these conditions a tad better?

every mode actually...... of course more so in sport.
auto mode and comfort mode are very similar so much that
you may not tell the difference between the two.

Impressions
Thanks for the congrats everyone, I am loving the "White Knight" moniker!
Just thought I'd jot down a few early impressions and hope to see everyone's feedback as their vehicles arrive. Overall I'm thrilled with the car. The pictures don't do justice to its presence. The words "svelte" and "cut" come to mind. No excessive bling here and I think the additions address adequately my concern regarding the blandness of the side profile.
Drivetrain is outstanding especially given the size of this thing. Acceleration and gear changes are seamless and this baby hustles. Absolutely worth the wait! With such a quiet cabin and excellent stability at speed it's easy to forget this is a truck. It is only until you brake that you realize the vehicle's mass. The stopping power seems excellent but I find the brake pedal travel a bit long before engaging and the feel too soft. Steering is on the lighter side at cruising speeds.
Interior ergonomics and use of space are well designed. As a long time MB driver though there is certainly more plastic and lesser quality leather than I'm used to seeing. Personally no issue with this in a utility truck. COMMAND system performs well, no real significant changes over the past few years. Sirrius sound quality is not great, I'm not sure if this is a function of their system or the actual radio. The only oddity I've noticed is that I can't see the right front corner of the car due to the hood "hump". How am I going to nail that apex?
I know this vehicle has been a long time in coming for most of us and I can assure you that it was well worth it. Keep those pictures coming as the babies arrive. Best wishes to all and many years of exciting and trouble free driving!

Congratulations to all who have received their 550's. NJ, I hope yours will arrive soon.
From looking at the pictures, it appears that the leather on the seats is like the nappa leather on the PE. Is that the case? I'm seriously considering getting the 550 for my dad once his lease is up on the 450 PE, but I have to have the nappa leather and blonde wood. Otherwise, we'll just keep it a bit longer.
