I have a Blackberry now and I have been itching for an iphone. I guess I will have to get it by Oct. when my GL arrives. Thank you for the info!

BTW, any chance of getting an inside photo on that cell phone of yours. I just changed my interior from ash to black and I want to make sure that i made the right decision.

MB's Ash is a beautiful interior color and black is, well, black. I have black so I am speaking from my experience.

With that being said, if you have kids black is a better choice, IMO. You don't see the inevitable scuff marks etc on black. And it is easier to clean. Rest easy

Sure i will get some pics of the interior posted really soon.

I like the black interior a lot , very sporty! Especially with it having silver stitching.. It really sets of the look being that my exterior is silver.

The black interior is difficult to capture in pics. It seems to turn a dark grey rather than the true black that it really is. I have never been a black interior person but the GL550 I saw was silver and had black inside. It really looked good and it is black, black. Stitching as mentioned really sets it off.

Here is a pic of the Black interior that I posted a while back. Like NJ said, it turns to a dark grey in pics. And, yes, stiching absolutely sets it off but based on what I have seen stiching looks great on Ash and Mac. If you want more pics, pm me your email address and I will find more.

Good to know! WordSmith and I both have iPhones, and it is nice to know it will be compatible with the new trucks. They work with our SL and ML some of the time.

question on the music playback

I asked for an iphone for our anniversary gift but I'm second guessing how useful it will be for me. I have a standard ipod that I plug through the auxilary line in my civic to the ipod's headphone jack. In the GL450, it connects to the ipod kit which sounds pretty bad compared to the same tracks burned to a cd. So would I have to get a bluetooth kit to get an iphone to work while connected to the ipod kit? The other question is that will I need a headset in order to speak through the iphone without the kids in the back chiming in? I think I'm still questioning the value of the music player being integrated into my phone when the ipod is wired to the car where I primarily use it.

You have a lot is issues here, not all iPhone related. We have the iPhone and it works fine when plugged into the iPod cable/kit in the glove box, as a MUSIC player. For a PHONE, you need the BT connection. With both connections, it can function as an iPhone AND iPod player. Phone in the glove box, plugged into the iPod cable, works in all but the weakest signal areas due to the IR glass we have and the glove box location. Outside of the glove box no signal problems. Hands free voice, send and receive is the best I have ever had, most people can't tell I am in a car.

Now, since we already had a larger iPod dedicated to the MB, and the iPhone can't hold our entire music library, we usually don't plug the iPhone direct into the glove box cable for music. It will connect as a phone via the Blue tooth puck anywhere in the car.

As for kid noise, our experience is that on the MB mic or a BT headset, if others talk, they will be heard!

Very good explanation FireGuy. One quick question, Does the iPhone charge while it is plugged into the ipod connection in the glovebox?

Thanks for clarifying. I'd probably end up having the dual iphone+ipod route as well. Especially because I often check email in bad traffic or if I need to go on the internet to find an address or phone number. Not crazy about having an ipod and iphone in the same car but I really like the iphone's user interface.

Thanks for the photos. NJ, it was great to see white exterior and black interior which is what I ordered. I will also be using the IPOD and iphone separately. I haven't taken a phone (or key) out of my pocket for my past 2 cars over the past several years and I don't plan to do it now in order to plug it into the glove box. I'm glad to hear the reception is good for those on the other end of my phone calls. I have a 2 & 4 year old so I tell them when I am on the phone and they know not to make any noise (we also keep what is called the "no-no" stick just in case they ever forget).

Yes. The trick is when the iPhone is plugged into the car interface it won't recognize it and ask, "want airplane mode?" Say NO and then it just keeps working normally and charging. It even works this way with a 3rd party iPod adapter to my wife's 06 Lexus...

We have a 5 and 6 year old, and do the same. When using the phone in the car, it is always quiet time. "no-no" stick, that's good, I like that. I might have to get one of those.

Glad to hear the Iphone works with the kit, and the BT kit as well. Not that I'm getting one anytime soon, but since they are dropping the prices, I might take a look. I'll stick to my U2 limited edition, or get a new 160gb or the new Itouch looks fancy as well. All this technology in a car, I remember my first car barely had an FM/AM radio
