2011 E350 Cabriolet..White and Almond Mocha
Latest pictures...
I post some pics I shot this morning after I got home. Great ride all the way...over 800 miles and it handles great.
I hit a light rain storm near Vail, CO. then stopped for the night just west of Grand Junction, CO. When I went to the car this morning, apparently they had a dust storm mixed with just enough rain to cause havoc with the appearance. When you look at the pics, open the Trip Home 9/15 6 photo file...that shows what I saw this morning. Then open the Trip Home 9/15 15 photo file and that shows the car after a visit to the car wash.
These are resized to 800 with no post processing. I will take some of them and crop and tweak them and post them next week. I intend to take some additional images on Sunday in a nice location and post those also.

Well if you think the mirrors on the GL are small you should see the S. The S mirrors are dynamically shaped like a teardrop...and are really bad. The GL mirrors seemed much larger to me but I will have to see how many blind spots there are. I didn't have any problem with highway driving but city may be another story. I did notice the rear view mirror gives you a cutoff view...small area and cuts off the bottom of the view.

Oh Jack, I would have cried if I'd come out & found my new 550 looking like that after the rain/dust storm! Sure does clean up nice Glad you're so happy with it. You deserve it, after all you went through!

I could not believe it when I saw the car Jen...I didn't hear any storm but is obvious there was more dust than rain...heavy rain would have left it clean...:-)

Different Perspectives
As we continue to be blessed with Jack's amazing photography skills, I've posted a few new ones that differ slightly from Jack's. Thought folks might like to see the chrome cross bars.
Pic #1 - Shows the crossbars from the top rear of the GL.
Pic #2 - Shows the crossbars from passenger side of the GL.
Pic #3 - Dead on front pic.
Pic #4 - Driver side from rear to front detailing running boards and chrome belt line.

The famous "gigantic star"
The star is big but I still think it goes well with the bigger grille and integrates well with the front of the car.

Having seen a 550 in person, the big star is very well proportioned to the rest of the vehicle. I went back and looked at the 550 at my dealership today and it's simply a beautiful automobile.

I think most folks will remember how worried I was about that crazy, huge a** star dominating the front of the vehicle. But, I too, echo what Jack and Jen say... it is certainly in proportion to the front of the vehicle. I don't know how something the size of a basketball can blend in, but it does on this particular model.

Jack, glad to hear that you made it home safely. Your vehicle looked like it went through a west Texas mud storm. Nice wash job and photos. Looking forward to the first batch from your next road trip.

Yeah Mary...neighbors are going nuts as they pass or pick up their mail...they are used to seeing a very sedate white sedan now this big bad black beast.
The S ride is softer and perhaps more quiet but on the highway the GL is every bit as capable as the S. I am having a little trouble getting use to the push buttons and little joy stick...I keep reaching for the iDrive knob...:-)

Great shots, Brian. And having gotten my first look at a 550 this weekend (THANKS, Jen) I agree that the star is well proportioned and fits in very well with the bigger grill.
Overall, I am very impressed with 550's design. MB has managed to keep the clean look of 450 and enhanced it just so to make it look like 450's bigger brother.

Nevada Jack - fantastic photos of your GL550. I really like the colour and the wheels. It is a beautiful looking machine.
I take delivery of a GL450 tomorrow (loaded with every option). Will be posting photos, as available.
