Protecting Rear Seat DVD Player

Wondering if anyone has come up with a method to protect the rear seat DVD player that comes with the Rear Entertainment package? It's mounted under the second row passenger side seat and is in direct line with the heel of the passengers shoe / boot.

I tell my kids to be careful - but its only a matter of time (given the position of the DVD opening and buttons) before one of them kicks mud, snow, dirt off their boots and all over the unit.

What would be nice would be for MB to have supplied some form of snap-on plastic cover or something that could be used when the DVD player is not in service (95% of the time).

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has come up with an ingenious solution for this.

Maybe it's just me, but on the right hand side of this picture (looking at the picture, that is), it looks like that's some kind of door that would slide across? I don't have one of these so maybe I'm just speaking with the rear exhaust (to be polite), but it would be my impression that that could slide in front of the unit. Just a totally-ignorant suggestion, probably completely wrong.

That indeed is a sliding door. The whole front plastic frame assembly came off on mine. After careful inspection I found that it just attaches with some prett weak looking clips. If my kids were bigger they would like like kick it off easily.

Oh for crying out loud - you're right!

That only took 10 minutes to solve that problem. I just went out to check and that's exactly what it is

Don't know how I could have missed it... I had asked my 16 year old son who usually sits in that seat if there was a cover to close and he told me no. I didn't look close enough, myself.

Anyway - problem solved by MB with a nice little cover that closes from the right side and slides across the opening.

Has your 16yr old hooked up his xbox 360 to it yet? I think there's an aux power supply back there. I was also wondering if you can use the aux connections to play a movie off the ipod to display on the rear seat monitor. We're pretty good about only allowing the rear seat to be used sparingly but it would be nice to let them control their own videos for future road trips.

Have not yet tried to use any aux inputs yet, but my son likes to fiddle with that type of thing, so I'll get him to try. Will let you know how it works out.

Hadn't thought of integrating a video iPod, but it's an interesting idea.

Glad to help. It's pretty rare when someone tells me I was right, so thank you!
