I agree, Brian. The open design of the wheels allows me to clean them in 2 or 3 minutes each. Quite a contrast from my 540i double-spoke wheels, that leave my hands bruised after a car wash.

We all have different perspectives/likes/dislikes and that is what makes sharing of knowledge even better.

IMNSHO, everyone is entitled to MY opinion

Jokes aside, transferred, you do make a good point but I think Chicky's response was meant in a jocular tone. I don't think she was "imposing" in any way.

Ah, good to know. I'm used to making friends not enemies on this forum.
I must say, the GL subsection is quite a community so you know how to gauge people's reactions much better than I. Puts the G-wagon crew to shame.

Anyway, thanks for the intervention, transferred and the explanation, nish.

Mmm hmm. Right...I wasn't imposing, just expressing MY opinion. I am always amused by those who state "understand others have their own opinion." Uh, yah. And I have one too and am allowed to express it. See how that works? We all get a chance to speak.

Now some people here...those with chrome wheels might be offended at the statement that their taste was called "vulgar". I'm sure there are many who think spending 80k on an SUV is vulgar. Or buying new cars every few years is vulgar. Or buying a $2,500 dog is vulgar.

Now I could say I am personally offended that an implication has been made that since I am "new to the forum" I am somehow stupid or naive. Neither is true. We can go on offending each other back and forth with our differing opinions, but I don't think that's going to be very fun.

Mr Vulgar also has a pair of $2500 dogs.

Very good point, NJ. Who am I to argue with the Engineers? After all, they build some of the safest cars on the planet. Plus after reading about the amazing stopping distances in the GL, compared to the competition, I think I want to rest assured that I haven't tweaked those numbers for the worse.

At least the wheels are easy to clean

GL's brake dust adds that certain character to your GL

Opinion on performance of Chromed Wheels

I have the 320 CDI and have two questions and would like the forum's opinion:

1. I heard the chrome 'could' affect wheel performance - make the wheels wobbly or even degrade the structural integrity of the wheel.

2. I have the stock 19'' wheels on the 320 - should I try to chrome these or go with a larger wheel - not sure what a smaller chrome wheel would look like.

Thanks!

I know they have 20" Chrome wheels for the 450 but has anyone else seen the 21's for the 550 in chrome? Any links you can provide? Someone else posted in another thread a group out in LA that can "chrome" any wheel with a special copper/nickel/chrome process for like $175 per wheel.

I was more interested in whether anyone has seen MB issued chrome 21's.....or chrome 21's that fit the 550's specs and that can be "badged" with the "star".
Picked up wheels today from Cal Chrome. Like everything else on the 550 they look very classy as opposed to "vulgar". My camera crashed so I will borrow or buy a new one. The chrome AMG wheels complement the other chrome features on the truck.
