I agree, Brian. The open design of the wheels allows me to clean them in 2 or 3 minutes each. Quite a contrast from my 540i double-spoke wheels, that leave my hands bruised after a car wash.

Jokes aside, transferred, you do make a good point but I think Chicky's response was meant in a jocular tone. I don't think she was "imposing" in any way.

I must say, the GL subsection is quite a community so you know how to gauge people's reactions much better than I. Puts the G-wagon crew to shame.
Anyway, thanks for the intervention, transferred and the explanation, nish.

Now some people here...those with chrome wheels might be offended at the statement that their taste was called "vulgar". I'm sure there are many who think spending 80k on an SUV is vulgar. Or buying new cars every few years is vulgar. Or buying a $2,500 dog is vulgar.

Now I could say I am personally offended that an implication has been made that since I am "new to the forum" I am somehow stupid or naive. Neither is true. We can go on offending each other back and forth with our differing opinions, but I don't think that's going to be very fun.

Mmm hmm. Right...I wasn't imposing, just expressing MY opinion. I am always amused by those who state "understand others have their own opinion." Uh, yah. And I have one too and am allowed to express it. See how that works? We all get a chance to speak. ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

I always say that if you want the car to stop (which brakes are made for) then stay with the "dust" produced by the MB pads. If MB does anything well it is knowing how to stop 2 1/2 tons of car in the shortest distance possible. To save a little dust and risk reducing your stopping distance is not worth a guess on replacement of the brake pads.
At least the wheels are easy to clean

Opinion on performance of Chromed Wheels
I have the 320 CDI and have two questions and would like the forum's opinion:
1. I heard the chrome 'could' affect wheel performance - make the wheels wobbly or even degrade the structural integrity of the wheel.
2. I have the stock 19'' wheels on the 320 - should I try to chrome these or go with a larger wheel - not sure what a smaller chrome wheel would look like.
Thanks!

I know Chicky said that you "upgrade" the 550's wheels to chrome (anywhere from $1600-$2500) at the dealer. Hopefully we'll soon see pics!
I know they have 20" Chrome wheels for the 450 but has anyone else seen the 21's for the 550 in chrome? Any links you can provide? Someone else posted in another thread a group out in LA that can "chrome" any wheel with a special copper/nickel/chrome process for like $175 per wheel.
I was more interested in whether anyone has seen MB issued chrome 21's.....or chrome 21's that fit the 550's specs and that can be "badged" with the "star".
