No wax as yet Steve, i just have it washed frequently. I will have it detailed in April when I visit oknish and jen in LA and I understand that will be Zaino.

Having been using Zaino on my Vettes and the GL for a number of years and nothing will give you a better "show car" shine!

Just to get back to the original post a moment, I happened to notice the the hatch on my wife's E500 wagon closes at least 3 times faster than the GL though the distance travelled between the 2 is not substantial. No beeping on the E500 either. Can almost have a picnic waiting for the GL to close...

A few times recently, I've experienced the tailgate close, but didn't hear the motor sound (yes, that's the technical term!). I did not receive a message on the display saying the gate wasn't closed. After closing this way a few times, when it was open, I pushed up on it and then pressed the "close" button and viola, it closed and I heard the motor sound.
Anybody else experience the lack of motor sound, yet the tailgate is closed?

Yes sometimes mine closes without the "close assist" process occurring. It kind of slams it shut and it is good to go (i.e. no warning on the dash). I also sometimes have the problem with the close assist not working at all and I have to pull back on the gate and then it activates. In a nutshell, my tailgate works correctly about half the time, closes completely without the close assist about 25 percent of the time, and I need to "help out" the close assist the other 25 percent. I really should get it fixed but I really don't feel like giving up the car to do it.
