Low Sulfur vs Ultra low
My wife inadvertently filled up my 2008 320 CDI with Low Sulfur instead of Ultra low
Should I worry?

2007 GL 320 CDI, 2008 M5
When I bought my GL 320, I was concerned about the availability ULSD and asked what would happen if I had no choice but to use the LSD or be stranded. I was told that a single tank or two would not be a problem; chronic use of LSD would clog the emissions system, however.
That said, most refineries are now only making ULSD. Chances are your wife really bought ULSD rather than LSD, even though the pump was not labeled that way. You can ask the service station what is in the pump. If the clerk there doesn't know, you can call the home office.
I did that locally for my neighborhood station, which has pumps that state they have LSD. The clerk didn't know what I was talking about when I asked him what was really in the tank, but at the regional office, they said they were only buying ULSD. They just haven't gotten around to changing the sticker on the pump yet.

My understanding is EPA required all diesel fuel manuf and importers to carry atleast 80% of the supply in ULSD by June of 2006. Given that I think most gas pumps today carry ULSD, though stickers maynot have been changed. Prolonged use of low sulphur will clog up fuel filters and injectors etc in any diesel engine built in 2007 and later. So I am extra cautious and do make sure the pump has ULSD sticker before we fill.. Although where I live this has not been a problem.

Im sure ULSD is out there in pumps that are marked with LOW sulpher, but I'm not taking chances.
I called the Regional office for Valero and Susser (accounts for 90% of the hundreds of stations in my area) and Customer Service INSISTED they do not carry ULSD.
All the Exxon and Chevron stations do, but Shell, Valero and Citgo aren't marked as ULSD and they all say they aren't expecting it for months.
Wrong or not, I'm not chancing it. If something DOES go bad, and it comes down to you put Diesel from a pump marked Low instead of Ultra Low, you're outta luck.
