We haven't hit the magical 25 mpg yet but have not had it out on flat highway, only hill country. She is getting 22+ in combined City/Hwy. Every time I drive it, I am amazed at it's power and accelleration. It pulls the hills and curves on the way home on cruise control and never has to gear down. It's all about the torque.
My lifetime (2978 miles )combined is 14.5 with the 450. Go CDI whenever you compare it to the 450. The cdi has more torque (nearly 60 foot ibs.) and will climb like a goat. You only lose about a second off the line against a 450. My first choice but could not finagle one in CA.

Ahh, good fill in to the thin details, thank you!

There is no replacement for displacement, particularly when the displacement is turbocharged.
I agree, but I have to admit, at 45% of the displacement and 147% beter mileage, that 3.0 L is bad azz. One of these days we're going to drag race. I think the Duramax will take her, but I'm not sure. Getting her to run it that hard is the real challenge. If I really want to see, we should swap rides.

I average 22-23miles/gallon, mostly highway, but I drive fast. The rpm is usually around 2500 while highway driving. I did get 25miles/gallon, once. For a car that big with decent pickup, the gas mileage is incredible. A long time ago, I remember my 1988 landcruiser getting 10miles/gallon, so anything above 10 makes me happy.

Now here's a man whose opinion I can respect since he drives both the gasoline V8 and diesel V6. He has no middle ground opinion, just black and white (sorry...)

I agree with most of the others that the 320 certainly is not underpowered. I chose it over the 450 mostly for its economy and because I think the diesel engine is kind of cool. Diesels (I mean for private use) are pretty rare here in America.

On a recent trip up to the mountains I averaged 26 MPG for the round trip and 28 MPG for the trip home!
