I can't tell you how happy Allen is that there is not a Nordstrom within 50 miles or so of where we live. There is, however, Nordstrom.com

NORDSTROM RACK RULES!

Um, I'm sorry - did I just say that out loud? There's that lack of inner dialogue popping up again. How embarrassing.

I am pretty sure I didn't get the angels unless someone is watching them. I do wish you all the luck and hope yours turn out to be angels. I would recommend against holding your breath though

Kids will dial your retentiveness down or you will wear yourself out. In my experience, adults see the futility of maintaining retentiveness and thus are first to give up. That and black interior really help.

Tightly strapped seat belts help a lot too. However, anything within reach is fair game

Stop..............You are scaring me now. My daughter is only 18 months old and already her shoes cost more than her brothers. I kid you not.

Don't tell Allen, I told you this, but Westfield on Topanga (by 101) has a Nordstrom that was recently expanded. In fact they are also getting a Neiman Marcus soon.

In stark contrast, we seem to be living in a part of NJ that is the mecca of shopping and hence why the county execs won't even consider Sunday shopping given the horrendous traffic around here on Saturdays.

We've a Nordstroms, a Neiman Marcus and a Lord & Taylor less than 10 miles away in ONE single mall; if you expand that distance to 15 miles, you can add a Saks and a Bloomingdales in another - and that's not counting the island of Manhattan that's only 25 miles away. So shopping is like a sport in our part of the world...and at times of major sales it becomes a blood sport!

Which explains why we did over 60% of our Christmas shopping online, just can't handle the crowds...

The Britax is belted pretty tight...much to her chagrin...but doesn't prevent her from taking off her shoes and socks on a regular basis on even a short trip in the car.

Thank goodness for the car seat mat that sits under her throne - otherwise the crumbs it collects would get seriously out of hand!

And yes, anything within her reach is fair game, and at 75th percentile in length since the day she was born, more and more things will come within her reach...

I told you - no ORP in my 320! Der!

As for daughter's and son's shoes - Nordstrom may be expensive but they have really good stuff a lot of the time. Watch out for Needless Markup - they don't like returns and usually have quite a premium on stuff they think you can't get elsewhere.

If this is indeed the case, then it'd be an easy sacrifice to give my wife the warm hands on the cold days...like today in NY where it hasn't gotten out of the teens and with the wind chill is in the single digits...though a week from now we'll supposedly be in the 60s again - who said there isn't global warming??
Actually, the wood/leather steering in 07 was a stand alone option. In 08 they made it part of leather package and took away rear heated seat option with leather package (typical MB style). So if you want rear heated seat and heated steering you will have to get MB tex. This was one of the main reasons we bought 07 320 CDI in August instead of waiting for 08s.

I'm going to New York City in November 2008 (over Thanksgiving) with my sister & niece. My niece is a huge shopper & my sister isn't, so Auntie (me) is going along to go shopping with my niece. My husband is terrified...I'm very excited . I've never been to NYC.

One of my favorite times in NYC is on or after Thanksgiving. The feelings that those decorated windows and the tree bring are unique to NYC. You will have fun but book your rooms early. If you are staying in Manhattan, Marriott Marquis is a great place to stay.

NYC just around Black Friday...yep, your husband should be afraid, VERY afraid...

Just tell him to clear off the balance on all the credit cards before you go - you're gonna need all the room you can get for shopping AND eating!

Yeah, I was afraid that may be the case - will double check with the dealer rep when we go later this month.

If push came to shove though, I think the Heating Package will win hands down with the SO.

Everybody has recommended the Marquis, but for the week we're staying, the hotel alone is $4,500 I can get us in at the Hampton in Times Square for $2,000 for the week, so I think that's the route we're going.

MB Tex

I have Tex and believe it is much more durable than even the best leather interior. In fact, I can clean it with just about any cleaning material. With two kids, it really is great. Also I would say it works for me psychologically. In my audi (which had top of the line leather) I was always worrying about the leather, when it got rained on a bit, snow, or when the kids got it dirty n some way. Now, I know I have nothing to worry about. Maybe its just me, but I like the peace of mind.

The one downside of MB Tex I have noticed is that it does not breath as well as leather. When the heated seats get real hot and I am wearing dress pants (to work), my legs can actually start to sweat a bit. I have not owned the car in the summer, so this may prove to be an issue.

Yes, the MB Tex seats will look much better over the long haul than the leather seats. They will be much more durable, easier to clean, and less prone to stains, and will not crack like leather.

FWIW, in the UK (and I suspect throughout Europe) the OffRoad package is standard equipment on ALL GL models, i.e. GL320CDI, GL420CDI, and GL500(same as our GL550).

MB leather in my 320 is 10 years old and 120k seat miles. Still looks great. Went through a teenager riding in the back. Same experience with tex also. Tex will also need emolliant replacement like Nish is applying to the leather. Sun is the killer for all cars so use your windshield screen to protect dash and seats with both materials. As some have noted, tex does not breath as well as leather. I live in a hot climate and I don't like my skin to stick to the seats like they do with the tex.

Apologies for being so rude as to not offer my help too since you'll be in my neck of the woods!

Please feel free to ask as your travel plans get closer to next Thanksgiving - even though it seems far now I'm sure it'll be here before we know it!

Sounds like MBTex would not be a big sacrifice if that's the only seating surface we can have with the Heating Package, thanks for all the input.

Since we're only leasing for ~36 months - give or take a few depending on the lease package offered - regular cleaning and our annual auto detailing appointments ought to keep either surface in good condition.
