Voice Control Feedback

MY GL has the buttons on the steering wheel for the VCS, but mine didn't come with it.

I searched the forum to see if adding it on now is an option, it's not realy clear whether it can or not.

Before I talk to my dealer about having it put in and the cost, what do you think about it? What do you like, what don't you like, etc.

It bothers me to have buttons with no function, but I don't want to spend money to have the buttons work and then be disappointed with the feature.

Thanks for any help.

Jimb - you can have dealer add Voice Control but it won't be same as factory cost of 500 bucks though. Labor will be high.

We love VC. very helpful for navigation, phone and radio. Enter street address by spelling, dial phone numbers either by name recognition or simply calling out the phone number. change radio settings etc.. very nice and in my opinion great safety feature.

Love my VC. It is especially good to change your route and input directions to the nav system.

I was at the dealership today getting my first service and talked to them about VCS. My saleman was looking into it.

He said it's not a simple upgrade. While he wouldn't say it can't be done, he couldn't really give me a quote since it's a pretty elaborate retrofit. I decide to pass on it. He said they have a lot of people ask since the buttons have no function and they'd wish they would ship a different steering wheel when VCS wasn't included.

Anybody know whether or not the voice control feature is suppose to allow you to change satellite radio stations as it does for regular radio? Also, it appears you cannot use the steering wheel controls to change satellite stations either, unless my st. wheel controls are faulty. Anyone know?
Thanks.

You definitely can use the steering wheel controls to change satellite station. If you have the satellite displayed on the readout then the +/- buttons will change the channel. It can be configured to go up and down presets or just up and down stations.

Thanks, Jim. I'll give it a go tomorrow, although I think I've tried those buttons with no success. If that's the case, I guess I'll have it looked at next time I have to take the vehicle in for servicing.

Just for clarity, it's the up/down arrow buttons, just to the right of the menu selector buttons, but still on the left side of the steering wheel. The +/- buttons always control volume.
