Macadamia nut interior

For those that have the macadamia nut interior color does it get dirty easy? I have always owned black interiors due to loading bicycle gear and such in the cargo bay and worry that the tan color would look dirty after a while, especially behind the third and second row seat backs. I do like the way the tan looks it makes the interior of the GL look bigger. I wish MB would have done tan seats with black dash, foot wells and black cargo areas.

Yes it shows dirt. It also seems to attract color from jeans or other clothes, but I still like it. The dash is OK because it is darker, almost a mocha. I have always been opposed to black interior due to living in an extremely hot climate. However, after seeing MB's black, and now knowing how well the IR glass works, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

Get the Mac interior dirty is by far the easiest thing to do in our GL.

Those other two guys say the mac interior gets dirty easily and takes up colors from other things like jeans. Well, I don't know if they've got leather or MB Tex, but mine's Tex and while any darker dirt will show up (think kids' shoes on the passenger side door panel above the speaker or - pissing me off to no end - on the glovebox because they put their feet up there) I don't find it getting any dirtier than any other tan interior I've had (been the most common interior color I've owned). And mine doesn't pick up color off of other things easily. Plus it cleans like a champ.

I have the Macadamia interior, and love it. Mine is the MB-Tex, and it can get dirty fairly easily, but cleans up just as easily. Suggest getting the custom Weathertech cargo liner and floor liners for all three rows. I also bought the Canvasback of Idaho cargo liner, which is also custom made. This comes in handy if you are really loading up the cargo area. I provides protection for the carpeted areas up the sides in the rear area as well as the backs of both the second and third rows. There is even a custom slit for the seat back covers so you have the option of raising or lowering part of the seat, leaving the other part in place. It really maximizes the protection for the entire cargo area.

I don't know BMW's pleather but MB Tex is an engineered vinyl material which is slightly less supple than the leather they offer but is, IMHO, sturdier and somewhat easier to care for.

Actually it used to be call Nalgahide. Which all cars used to advertise as an advantage over vinyl.

The problem is that the demand for Nalgahide caused the nalga herds to be decimated which is why MB went to MB Tex. In the old days, the cowboys would round up the nalga herds and slaughter them like the old buffalo hunter did to the buffalos.

Slowly the nalga herds are coming back, but the nalgahides are only being used for fine furniture.

For me the most common dirt is sand on the floor. The Mac interior in my GK hides it better than the black interior in my E500.

I too have the mac MB Tex and wile I typically own cars with black interiors am quite happy with the choice. My experience is similar to others ablove: 1)it actually shows less dirt than the black in some cases (eg sand, dirt, etc). 2) biggest problem I have is with the seats as I find the dye from jeans rubs off. However its quite easy to clean simple wipe down with a leather cleaner or moist cloth with a little bit of soap.

I have Mac Leather and it does track blue jean color, etc. What's everyone using for leather cleaner? I also ordered the canvasback for the rear - glad to see you like it JDT1

JDT1,

Did you consider the "rear seat cover" from Canvasback? Have a dog that loves riding in the car, and I dread having it ride in the wife's S550.

Have Mac as well, the Griot's interior wipes make keeping clean a dream...800% better than the Stone interior from early 211's, my wife's car stays NAS-T, and there is NO good way to clean it. Especially the nappy cloth strip on the door sill...

cablvr:

I'll have to look into the Canvasback rear seat cover you mentioned. I also have a dog that occasionally travels with me, but we usually use the other vehicle and lay a small blanket over the seat. Not really enough room for our Golden Retreiver. Thanks for the tip. I guess I missed it that Canvasback has this type of seat cover.

JDT1,

Just ordered an OEM rear seat cover in grey (only color) for the GL. According to the parts counter, it's made for dogs, wet bathing suits, kids, etc. and can be used for both the 2nd & 3rd row. Less expensive than Canvasback rear seat cover.

Thanks for the info. It only comes in grey for the GL? Do you have a part number? I have a GL accessories catalog by MB, and it does list a rear seat cover in either beige or grey, but no part number is shown. Just says to contact the dealer. I'm surprised it would work for either the second or third row seats since there is a significant size difference in those seats. Must be adjustible in some way. Also, is the cover designed to work with the seats when half the seat is up and half is down? Thanks.

According to the dealer, the seat cover is universal and only comes in grey. I will report back once I receive the item.
