are chrome aerowings holding up?
For those who have installed the chrome hood aerowings, I'm curious to know how they have been holding up? In other words, has the double faced tape held up pretty well that secures the chrome "wing" (fin) over the original black one on the vehicle? Also, is it really necessary to wet down the black one before installing the chrome one? Seems kind of strange to me.

Mine are holding up great.
The reason you wet the black ones is because the chrome-plated ones have double stick tape on them. By wetting the black ones, you can then slip the chrome-plated ones on. If the black ones were dry, the chrome-plated ones would stick immediately & you wouldn't be able to position them correctly. Follow the directions to the letter & you'll have no problem. Very easy install.

Despite having 26k+ miles on the car, doing a lot of highway driving, and having various car washes and details, the fins are not only clinging tenaciously to the hood of the car, they look just as good as when I put 'em on.

Ditto to JDT1, will get busy next week installing them, can't wait until they arrive. And, JDT1, if you get yours first and have any installation suggestions, or anyone else for that matter, I'm listening.....

Order them from formymercedes.com. On that site, they are called Hood Aerowings, #164-1016. They come in a set of 6 for $94.00 (best price available). Gerry Jones operates this business and I'm sure he can make arrangements to ship overseas.

Just a quick comment on Gerald's ForMyMercedes wings. I ordered the less expensive set for my '08 ML. After installation, something about them bothered me. When I mentioned it to Jerry, he sent me the Statz set to try. Significant difference if you're particular. Close examination before I installed them shows the major difference is the bottom edge. The Statz has a nice, rounded edge while the other version looks and feels sharp. Of course, you have to be within 10 feet to notice the difference.
If you have any questions, drop Jerry an email. I found him to be very helpful.

12 months now in the Vancouver rain and absolutely no problems to date with the less expensive version.
For those wondering about glare, the hood is raked far enough down that you don't ever see the chrome unless you sit all the way up! Thus a non-issue.

I just bought aerowings from formymercedes.com. The part number is 164-1016. On the box it states "chrome fins for ML W164". Is it the same for GL?

Yes, it's the same. My box and instructions say the same thing. I haven't installed yet, but I did take them out of the wrappers, and they line up and fit fine. I have noticed that a couple of other vendors who carry them show the same part numbers for both the ML and GL vehicles.

Thanks.
It is interesting that the price is $99 in the ML section but $94 in the GL.
