Thumbs up I did it... GL550 w/ Pics

I pulled the trigger and bought the GL550, and I must say I'm absolutly in love so far. I really like the ride quality and the handling of it. It has plenty of power, and it looks just so amazing. So I did join the GL Club, and hope this SUV will bring me many happy days.

SPECS:

2008 Mercedes-Benz GL550
w/ Premium Package consisting of:
Climate comfort front seats
Multicontour front seats
Heated rear seats
KEYLESS-GO
Rear view camera
EASY-PACK power tailgate
Separate rear audio controls

Heated Steering Wheel
Rear Seat Entertainment
Ventilated Front Seats

It was a great experience, and the dealer "threw" in the Rubber Floor Mats and two Key Chains at no charge. I was able to negotiate 10K below MSRP, which I thought was a very good deal.

So yeah, here I am with a GL550. This is a great Forum by the way. I really enjoy reading it.

Did you consider the CDI version at all. I've only heard good things about it...Whatever the case congrats and enjoy the GL in good health.

I did consider the CDI, but I just couldn't resist the looks of the 550. It looks so much meaner, and has a much bigger presence in my opion. And honestly, after driving my 07 GMC SIERRA DENALI, I am pleasantly surprised in regards to the fuel consumption. I thought it would be about the same as the Denali, however I took it for a 1.5 hour drive on the highway, and here is what i got:
HYW: 12.4L/100km HYW & CITY combined: 14.2L/100km which is think is reasonable for that size SUV with that kind of power.

Congrats! Welcome to the "GL Club" Love the color. Pewter was my first choice of colors. But since I wasn't patient enough to order it, I had to take what was on the lot. Silver was the best alternative. Enjoy many happy miles

Thanks! When it came to buying new vehicles I had always bought black (E320, ML350), then I got tired of keeping them clean and though I'd try white on my Denali. Liked it a lot. Now when the GL550 came in I kind of liked the color and it is growing on me. It's called Cubanite Silver here in Canada (Canadian Brochures).

The 10k came of the MSRP. Original MSRP was about $105,000 give or take a couple hundred. In the end it cost me $105,000 including 12% Tax (GST & PST). So a little more than 11k of savings from the MSRP actually. The $4,000factory cash back was not part of that.

So in southern terms, you got about 19mpg on the highway to 16.5mpg in mixed.

(No, I'm not a math wiz; http://www.onlineconversion.com/fuel_consumption.htm)

That's a pretty good deal. My dealer said they are selling 6 CDIs to one gas in the GL in western Canada, so you likely got a better deal in part due to this fact. Having worked at an exotic car dealer before, I also know that dudes wanting to drop 100k on something in-stock and accruing interest is not an everyday event, so your leverage is obviously pretty high when you buy off the lot in our snack bracket.

Nice ride, nice deal, happy days!

Thanks Brocktoon. I am happy with it, and that's what is most important to me. Where are you located?

Nice to see the ventilated seats. You'll have to let us know how you like them. I think I wish I had them on my GL.

I'll make sure to post about the ventilated seats once I've used them. We are just coming out of a cold winter, and looks like it is finally starting to warm up around here. So once I use them I'll make sure to post about it...

Any suggestions? What are popular mods, and where does one get them? Any pointers would be appreciated...

The only mod for 550 that comes to my mind is lowering module. For accessories, start with AMG pedals then move on to mats/liners (all weather, carpet, rear cover, etc.). Depending on how much chrome you like you should get chrome covers for the fins on hood as well as chrome door handle inserts. That is all I can think of for now. Start searching the forum and you will find more details. For chrome, http://www.formymercedes.com is the unanimous choice.

Very nice, thank you! I already have the original Mercedes Benz GL rubber mats which I got as part of the deal. The chrome covers for the hood fins are a definate must in my opinion. So I'll be ordering those. Thanks for the lead. Mercedes should have put them factory on the GL550, because they already did the chrome tail gate, rear bumper plate, and the roof rails, could have gone one step further on the fins... oh well

Nice job Joyride and you got a beauty.

Enjoy the next several months in Europe. Hopefully, you'll have some summer left when you return.
