Tekonsha brake controller installed with a rear SAM

Finally had the Tekonsha brake controller installed by the RV dealer. AS expected, they were surpised to locate the SAM in the rear. "Why would they want to do that? It wouldn't be a problem to route the wire from the front to the rear anyway" He pulled off the left side brackets (the one with the Mercedes Benz label) off and hid the wires under them. Then fished the wires under the spare tire casing and into the right rear compartment. He didn't have to wire the battery of any sort. All of the wires were entirely hidden and it took him 2 hours for a $240 parts and labour job to get done. Excellent job and I gave him a 6-pack at the end.

The first picture is one of where the controller is located.

The second picture shows where the hidden wires are located uder the MB label cover.

I'm hauling a 22-foot 5600 gross weight trailer with the Equal-i-zer hitch. The GL pulls well and seems to be stable when sixteen wheelers passby. I have been happy with it so far.

By the way, the hitch was an aftermarket installment performed by the MB dealer for a total of $1275.

Hm - I have the same Prodigy controller and all of the wiring was done by the RV dealer up front under the dash on our '07 GL 320 - no wires to the back at all. I just had it taken out to be re-installed on our '08 GL 320 - I hope it is all right up front there too.

I am towing a 7,000 lb car carrier box trailer with the controller - also tow an 8,000 lb 32-ft boat rig, but with hydraulic surge brakes, so the controller is inactive on that one.

Is your SAM located at the rear? I was assuming that the green connector was the SAM and when I showed it to him without himself expecting the place under the dash, he told me that the controller would be attached to the SAM. Either way, the installation came out flawless.

I have the '07 GL450.
