Just picked up our 08 GL320. What are the top few things...
... that I should be worried about? I've heard that there's an air hose problem with the turbodiesel. Any other common glitches?
After one weekend, we're in love with the efficent use of space and the AMAZING execution of the interior details..
On one mostly highway trip, we beat 24MPG. If only diesel was more reasonably priced!

We have 15,000+ miles on ours and have not had a single issue. It's a terrific SUV.

All you need to do is make sure your vehicle doesn't have any TSBs on it, which if you just picked it up it most likely won't have. They replaced the hose completely. There was also a crankshaft sensor mount or some such that had to be replaced. It's probable that everything was put in on the assembly line if your build was recent enough, or fixed at the dealership before it was put on the showroom floor.
