Rear Spoiler from ForMyMercedes

***Frivolous accessory and another way to spend $$ ALERT***

Just saw the new spoiler on ForMyMercedes.com http://http://www.formymercedes.com/...egory=Spoilers. Has anyone tried one? If so, can you pls share install experience, impressions, and pix? Looks similar to Brabus body kit spoiler http://https://mbworld.org/forums/sh...hlight=spoiler. Also wondering if this is actually functional (keeps rain off back window).

Saw that last week. Maybe someone should drop that Jerry dude an e-mail to get the lowdown. I,personally have not thought the GL needs a roof spoiler, but it could look cool in "real life".

I've had a number of vehicles w/roof spoilers & their purpose is not to block rain. It's mostly for looks & to block sun. Water on the back window comes from tire overspray & the vacuum behind the vehicle, not from direct rain.

If properly designed (think 1976 Country Squire), rear spoilers can be designed to create a cascade of turbulent air off the roof of wagons/suvs that will clean the rear window/tail lamps. This one does not seem to be designed in this way, though, so I agree with you guys, but the OP is right when he refers to rain dispersal as being a potential purpose of a spoiler.

Having grown up in the 1970s, I know exactly what you're talking about. Those "downdraft" spoilers screwed up my early thinking on high performance aerodynamics.

They were also supposed to reduce the backwash of car exhaust back in the day when you could open the tailgate window.

Personally, the least appealing element in the GL design is the rear window area. It's very vertical and boxy. I would think that a spoiler would only accentuate the issue. It obviously helps a lot with rear storage area.

2008 GL550 Obsidian Black/Black
i ordered a spoiler from Wood Dash something a few months ago.I know is the same spoiler(picture is the same). Paid $149 which wasn't bad. The quality was pretty bad and the fit wasn't right. Took it to my body shop and my guy refused to do it, saying why put a cheap piece of fiberglass in such a high end truck. I took his advice and sent it back. I think it would have looked ok with it but then i stared noticing all these suv's with spoilers(highlanders, crv's,pilots, etc) you know what: i like my GL without one. By the way , it has no function at all, looks only.

Not to put anyone on blast, but I bought something from them before and had a rather disturbing experience. Before I could pay via paypal I got some angry email demanding payment and that I was causing confusion. I never bought anything from ForMyMercedes again after that.

NJ,

Isn't this Jerry's company? Seems like most have had a great experience from him. If this is his company, I wonder what the issue was with BigBen?
