DVD in headrest?
I want the DVD system, but dont like the 08 setup. Has anyone added rear seat DVD's aftermarket? What did you put in and what was the cost for the install?
By the way, 2 more days until I pick up the GL550!
Thanks

Congrats on the new 550.
I have after market DVD players- Vizualogic. I wanted a 450 with the stock headrest players, but the dealer couldn't find one with that and the other options I wanted so they had an aftermarket company install them before I picked it up. I can't remember the exact total, but I believe it was ~$2,400, which is much more bang for the buck than the OEM ones. The OEM players can only play one DVD at a time and don't include headphones. So the Vizualogics are what I would highly recommend getting. Here is the link for them and the dealer locator: http://www.vizualogic.com/active_headrest.html.

Is this true for the 07 model year as well? I thought it didn't have any...well then again I don't have the OEM system.
EDIT: Just checked the MB website and it says they are wired.
The Vizualogic system has wireless headsets.

It might make sense to spend a little more for the self-contained ones that can play independent of each other, if the Vizualogic you're looking at isn't that way. We had the dual headrest ones from them back in 2004 and they both played off the same player.

They're independent...have their own DVD slots. There's an option to play the same DVD on both screens.

My GL didn't have DVD player, but I paid Mercedes $2500 for install. They came out to our house. The brand is ROSEN. It loads directly above screen and can play one or both DVD independently. Bonus: I'm able to play ipod through "aux". In glovebox, just unplug DVD plug and into ipod.
Didn't have to drill into headrest. Looks clean and matches leather.
Probably should purchase with Mercedes, just in case there's any problem, you can go straight to MBZ (matches leather, works properly, etc.)

BTW, I think I have mentioned this before, if you get an aftermarket DVD RSE mounted on headrest make sure it won't interfere with the "Active Headrest Restraint" that GL has. This system allows the headrests to move forward in case of certain collisions to minimize neck "whiplash".
