New iPhone Bluetooth module

Just read this today and the only vehicle not included appears to be the GL...both the ML and R are included. Anyone know why... Fahrer?

occarfan,

The regular iPOD integration kit (available since MY07) does allow control of an IPOD from the steering wheel.

oknish,

You maybe right about a typo by occarfan.

I wonder if the article that NJ referred to just has a typo regarding leaving out the GL in the list. Seems odd that the GL would not be included?

I thought of that also but on a press release you think that would not happen. I suspect it has something to do with the COMAND version and perhaps the module will work with the '09 model GL? But, does the M and R already have the updated version?

Also this is a EU press release so no one ever (and I mean ever) knows if this is available to US models or not. No reason in my eyes for it not to be available here.

Hopefully the new module will work in the GL though...it would be GREAT.

My exact thoughts, NJ. I, like Gordon, first thought it was a typo too that they left GL out since M and R (for cryin' out loud) was included. I think only way to know for sure would be when this is available from dealer and one of our brave forum members will try it and give us a "real" release

I don't think this iPhone cradle will be available here. The 2009 MY cars are getting the new nav system head unit that has Bluetooth built in. It seems that MBUSA is choosing to do away with the cradle set up in favor for an easier to use Bluetooth interface built into the cars.

Also there is the new Media Interface for 2009 which seems to come with all cars that have COMAND or Nav. I tried the Media Interface on a 2009 CLS and it was very cool. It integrated my iPhone directly with the COMAND system. All the menus were there for music options.

Yes, but the sound quality via Bluetooth, would be bad, due to the slow transfer speed

No US cradle at this time

I received this response from AWS this morning regarding the new iPhone cradle. No clarification on use in the GL and not available in the US at this time.

Thank you for contacting Auto Wireless Solutions (AWS) with your questions.

The iPhone cradle for the US Market is not available at this point.
