First few days...

Ok, after a few days, I have got to say I'm really happy with my GL. Love the power and smoothness of the diesel, and although the engine is not even broken in, we were able to get over 28 miles/imp gal on a a couple hours of highway driving, in the mountains, with a headwind at fairly high speeds.

Still getting used to some quirks, though. The gearshift engagement is very loud. I now know why people were wondering if it was a problem. Sounds like grinding gears in a manual!

And what's up with Airmatic? I have had to use it a couple of times because they are paving my road, and my driveway is about 10" higher than the roadbed right now. Takes about 3 minutes to raise the car, and two to lower back down to get in the garage. However, if you open a door or put something in the trunk, it's moving up and down and farting like some kind of lowrider at the slightest touch... seems kinda wierd!

Now that's funny. I've had a few guests who've went to the GL to get something out of it and they've asked how I trained my vehicle to hiss at them. I like the farting notion better and will use it in the future.

The hissing is normal. I find it really neat. Impresses friends.

Yes it takes a while to raise and lower the truck. I at first was hoping for the "hydraulics" action, but this is better I guess.

Keep an eye on the gearshift sound. When I put mine in/out of park, it sounds like a loud camera shutter.

Way to go on the mileage!!! Just wait till it breaks in and see what more you get.

Congrats and enjoy!!

Mine has only hissed once It made a grinding noise going into reverse once when it was two days old, but has been well behaved since then. I need to get the downshift sorted when I bring it in for the first time, because the bloody thing will toss you out the front window going to first from second.

But you gotta love the mileage. Burns less fuel than my XC70, and outperforms it in every way (except comfort and ergos).
