There are rumors that a forum member has been looking at sport cars and trading his GL550
Who could that be I wonder

I have a feeling if that rig passes through Vegas, they'll definitely be some money in the trunk compliments of the dealer.

I think it's time to meet in Colorado for those pics during the week of July 7th. Much cooler with no threat of wildfires, or temps above 100 degrees. I wish you could see how much snow we still have in the mountains. Stunning... absolutely stunning this summer.

Rumor confirmed
I can now confirm the rumor... I have closed a deal yesterday for a new '08 SL550... 
I absolutely love the GL but as one gets older, one finds that to enjoy the fruits of ones labor, the time to do it is when you can still enjoy it to the maximum. This philosophy is what keeps me going at times. Hence the new SL.
As usual, Greg in Denver (Westminster MB) did a wonderful job in finding one of these last '08's and also worked out a unbelievable deal for me. We closed the deal in less than 30 minutes Black on Black, AMG Pkg, P1 (including vented seats) and Parktronic. Delivery probably after the 4th in Denver. Stumble and I will celebrate at a drool party with Greg doing the officiating.
Here are some shots I took off the web. I guess I will be posting some of my work on the SL site as well as some initial ones here. I don't shoot a lot of pictures normally...

By my calculations I think the surface area of the new ride is about 1/3rd the surface area of the GL550. Think of the time you are saving keeping it clean vs your GL.
Let me be the first to offer you an opportunity for that recovered time. You may continue to hone your GL polishing skills by cleaning my GL in Minnesota any time you'd like. And yes, you can take as many pictures of it as you like after it's clean.

I am sure you are pleased with the R... after all it and the GL and ML share most components. I followed the R development from the initial concept drawings and was the first guy on the lot to test drive it. It performed fine but the styling just did not fit my eye. I should have made it clear that it was my opinion and did not reflect a anything more. I think the low sales level is what will probably effect the longevity of the line.

Congratulations Jack!! What a beauty!! Sad to think that there will be less pictures of GLs on this forum, and less posts from you. We'll have to start reading the SL posts as well now.... and when the kids are out of the house hopefully follow your lead!

Congratulations Jack. First an R (almost), an S, a GL, now an SL. I am stuck with the same car I had when I started reading your adventures. Good luck and a fine choice you made.
A little off topic, and I apologize, but did you ever take any of those semi-off road trips with your camera? I can imagine what quality photos you must have if you ever did.

Congrats Jack! We must have the same taste in cars. My GL is black/black and DH's SL is also black/black. You'll love it. I borrow the SL to go shopping - it puts me in the mood - and after stuffing the trunk full the valet jokes that one of these days I'll be able to drive away with the top down. Drive it in good health!
