Is it worth waiting for an '09 Bluetec GL or taking a discount on a '08 GL320. my hunch with Diesel prices on what they are, the '09s will also be substantially discounted.

There are zero mechanical advantages to a Bluetec, in fact I would argue that there are disadvantages to Bluetec.
There are some electrical advantages to the 09's, such as the improve NAV and the improve OEM RSE.
We have a 08 GL320 CDI and love it. The NAV is OK with me and I have the Vizualogic rear seat DVD system. Almost the perfect SUV.

I have to agree on all counts. BlueTec is the technology that may facilitate a landscape change in North American markets, but it offers no real benefit to the consumer over the CDI, other than the knowledge that NOx is neutered by the blue pee, and particulate emissions are a couple of percentage points lower.Originally Posted by gordongl450

MB_V - your post only mentions prices and discounts. If that's your primary concern, just go for the best deal you can

I completely agree - '08 is the way to go. I had an '07 320 and updated to an '08 320 CDI to AVOID getting stuck with the ad-blue system on the '09. The tank goes where the spare used to go. That's right, you will get no spare on the '09. Instead, you will get rock-hard run-flat tires. Having had the run-flats on a Mini-Cooper and a BMW 335, I will never have them again. The '09 GL is a work-around to get 50-state certification. The new Comand electronics are nice, but the '08's are fine. Also, if you want Distronic, it will NOT be available on the '09's. That's something I would not live without because I drive in a lot of stop-and-go beach traffic.
