Have 15,000 miles on my GL.
Brakes squeel "on and off" when braking slowly (5 to 0 mph).
Just when it starts to annoy me, it's gone. But know it'll be back another day

Fear not, I have 45k miles on my GL and my brakes squeel all the time at speeds less than 25. I've had MB replace the pads twice but that lasts for maybe a 1000 miles...then it comes back. So at this point I've just learned to ignore it, even though it shouldn't occur on a $70k vehicle.

I had an ML500 before my GL, and have a couple of friends who have ML's. In the winter in cold climates the brakes squeel regularly. I've been told it's not a wear issue but rather is due to the composition of the pad.
I have had some warm weather squeel at slow speeds as referenced above, looking forward to seeing if it gets worse in winter like my ML.

I've now had the aftermarket pads on for nearly a year, and am thrilled with the results. No squeal, great stopping power, and no dust. Best upgrade you can make to this car.
