Spotted a GL with rear mounted spare wheels

Although I do not like it at all, I thought it was something different and ended up taking a couple of pics

I love it, but I'm told it is not legal in north america, as it cannot be released from inside in the case of an accident by the third row passengers.

A better solution for adblue models, than runflats, but whatever...

VERY strong electric motor(s)!

Notice also the operating brake lights low in the bumper on this model.

Definitely not my cup of tea. I do wonder though if MB will honor tailgate warranties with this.

Now I that I looked carefully, there is hinge mini swing mechanism on the left side which is designed to move the spare tire unit out of the way to open the tail gate.

I can't say I'm a fan. It looks all Jeep-ish now.

Not my cup of tea. It is really ugly. I hate to see what happens if the tail gate accidentially opens.

That tire destroys the whole look of the rear. You don't notice the beautiful lines, the tires on the pavement, but rather the ugly tire on tailgate.

That's silly.

Personally, I think the grille on 550s reeks and that black is the worst possible color but I avoid posting things like that as my ego doesn't need it.

Breathe in... 1, 2, 3, 4, Breath out... 1, 2, 3, 4, Repeat 4 more times.

C'mon Chris, lighten up. I think a lot of us have gotten to know Nish pretty well through this forum and I don't believe he posts because his ego needs it. I think he is just expressing his personal opinion, like so many of us do on this forum. For Pete's sake, the vehicle in question isn't even owned by a forum member!

Of all the people on this forum, oknish is the last who needs to do anything to satisfy his ego. His sense of humor keeps this board one of the best on the net... maybe more people should show their sense of humor once in a while.

Just expressing my personal opinion of course...

Brockton is right; it's not (factory) legal in the U.S.A. There must be a way to open up the liftgate from the inside for third row passengers.

Ugly or not, this would have been a nice option for those BlueTEC customers who feel they MUST have a spare wheel.

If those BlueTEC customers are so upset with no spare, I can't imagine them going for something like that to solve their problem. A cover of some kind may make it more acceptable but that "big ugly" tire is just that. Totally a stick on solution in my mind and a poor one at that.

Sorry GL...it is still an with me.

If you really need a SPARE FOR THE 09 MODEL, get a roof top carrier ala Range Rover, it sure would look better than this !!
