noise at >40mph
Just took delivery of a used GL450 with all the goodies. Car has 20inch rims with michelin tires who have 20% of life left I would say.
What bothers me is the markable noise coming from the wheels or axle areas when driving. It kicks in at 30mph and never stops. I'm sure it's not related to the automatic gear box, suspension nor the steering column. No vibration only noise. I don't have the crossbars installed. Did a search but must be the only one with this issue. I used to drive GLs in Germany for MB and I am sure the car was a lot more silent inside.
Even my wife (who has no clue of things on 4 wheels) said there is a funnny noise....
I suspect the tires. Before I let the guys loose at the repair shop any ideas? Car has 25K miles.
I'm pretty sure the bearings are not due for replacement yet.
thank you,

thank you,
I ll mount the new tires and let you know what the outcome is... I m a bit sceptical as I still have contact with the previous owner and he did not notice anything when driving.
we shall see....
I should make some pictures of my 2 new cars....
Michelins they were.
Must be the most expensive tire on the market but the dealer told me this particular model was one of the noisiest on the market. They stopped producing them. Be ware you don't get one on your car. I tell you : What a noise after 10K miles!!! Got Continentals this time.
This forum rocks. tx for the help
