Window Trim Problems

I noticed last week that the window trim on my rear quarter pannel windows appears to be deteriorating. In the pictures, it is highlighted by a red circle. It is happening on both sides. I sent pictures to my SA and he has ordered replacement parts and will have me bring my GL in to have them replaced under warranty.

Anybody else have this problem?

From the pictures, I wasn't sure if what I was seeing was a reflection of light, or a dent. So, when you say deteriorating, does that mean the trim pieces are actually denting inward? Or, are they beginning to chip apart.

I checked mine out and they look okay, but I'm curious as to how yours are deteriorating.

It's hard to see in the pictures, but there is a clear film over the black trim that is peeling away.

Perhaps the factory wrap was not 100% removed. Found several areas on my GL with similar overlooked wrap.

Okay, I can see it now. What I was seeing as a dent is where the film is peeling away.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure all of us will keep a close eye on ours as well now.

I am not having that problem but the vertical trim on the drivers side rear window, between the full glass and the small section that does not go down, has developed spots and has turned dull. My dealer replaced it once but after about a month it has done it again. All other trim is still black and shiny. I am stopping by the dealer tomorrow to see what they say. Anyone else experience this?

Yes. I blamed it on the application of RainEx (rightly or wrongly). I gave it a rub with a polishing product (NuFinish clearcoat scratch remover, I believe) and they've been fine since.

That could very well be it. I want my SA to take a look at it, but my husband thought that might be what it is, too.

Jen,

Checked mine this afternoon in bright sunlight and no issues to report. Hopefully yours is just residual tape from when it was shipped.

My SA called & the window trim parts finally came in. By now, however, the trim problem has spread to all window trim, not just the rear quarter-pannel windows. My SA had only ordered the rear quarter-pannel window trim, so the GL will be in the shop overnight as he had to order trim for the front & passenger door trim.

He said mine is the 3rd GL he's seen come in with this problem and he had a new ML earlier today with the issue. He said it's a quick fix to pop off the old trim & put on the new.

I do have a red C300 sitting in my driveway as a loaner car. The PT Loser I got stuck with before was available, but the rental car guy remembered how much I didn't like that car, so he gave me the only C class they had available. It's sad when the rental car guy remembers you!

They have a new updated part for this. We had the same problem on our 08 GL550 and the parts had a different number on them.

Depends where I'm going.
Mine is having the same issue. I hope they replace both sides when I take it in.

Yup, exact same problem I had. Eventually, it spread to all the windows. Hopefully, you can get all of the trim replaced. My SA said he'd seen it on a few GL's and a couple of ML's.
