Remote tailgate open "feature"
Anyone know whether it is possible to reprogram the car or the remote key to disable tailgate opening when the car is locked?
This is the one place we have found where the car is not idiot-proof. All too easy to approach the car, toss in the groceries, set the key down, shut the tailgate, and get locked out. The solution, of course, is to unlock the car before opening the tailgate, and the car will stay unlocked because the opening the tailgate appears to trigger the same response as opening a door.
But I would like to disable this "feature" so that the tailgate button only works after the car is unlocked.
Any ideas?

My wife locked the keys same way. She loaded the groceries and put purse in the car and then close the tail gate and then realized that she never press the unlock. We do no have a smart key. I get a call from her and learned that she locked the car. I told her to call the MBUSA and have them unlock the car remotely. MBUSA asked if we had subcribed to Teleaid. We did not had that either. So that was not possible on the spot either. I think annual cost is 250$+. So I end up driving there and opening the truck with spare key. Since that event we have not locked out our truck by this method. Anyways, I will be intererest to know about how to prevent this. If opening and closing the tailgate can be synchronized with locking and unlocking mechanisim.
