Facelift mirrors
Do any of you know, if it's possible to mount the facelifted mirrors on the GL, is it just a bolt-on?
I like the fact that they are bigger, since i find the mirrors too small for a suv of this size?
hope you had a great christmas and have a happy new year
Guess I have mental block regarding the '09s as run-flat tires on the diesels make them of no interest to me. Sorry for misinformation, then.
To find the cost best bet is to explore EPC and total up the parts required. It would be extra problematic for me, as my color's NLA in 2009 (2008, too)
They are expensive at ~$350 each from TR, but we bought the MB tire & wheel road hazard warranty, where for an initial cost of $575, they will replace any of the tires and/or wheels that are damaged from any road hazard for 5 years. Even if we just pick up a nail, MB will replace the tire instead of trying to patch it.
'09 GL with Runflats & ADS rides better (in comfort mode) than a non-ADS GL on standard tires.

It sure looks like there is no change in the mounting surface for the mirrors and that they could be interchanged. No guarantee threaded inserts beneath are in same location of course.
When I studied the two it sure appear this is mostly a styling change and that the newer mirrors are little if any larger in area than the older ones. "Chunky" styling of the new ones may create illusion they are bigger than they are.
This would be an expensive exercise, especially if the internals of the mirror require changing. That's the folding mechanism and the motors, i.e. everything that the cover and the glass mount to. Even more of an expense if the covers can't be obtained prepainted. Or, as in my case, if your color isn't available any more. This can all be researched with an EPC subscription.
