cargo box and garage door opening

Reviewed the threads re: cargo boxes. Do you guys keep the car outside when the cargo box is attached or do you not have any trouble pulling into the garage with the added height? I have standard height garage door and wondering if I have to pull the box off every time I come back from weekend ski trip. Also, has anyone used newer "low profile boxes by Yakima or Thule?" Comments and suggestions appreciated!!

That'll all depend on your own garage! If your door and garage are high enough, you can leave the cargo box on. If they're not high enough, there's no sense in even asking.

Your mileage may vary.

We have the MB OEM cargo box and it fits fine through our standard height garage door. Measure the height of you garage door opening and compare it to your vehicle, then follow STP's instructions and you'll be good to go.

And don't raise the vehicle before entering the garage, unless you've pre-cleared the raised height!

Typical garage clearance hieght is 7 feet and some custom homes have 8 feet or more. Measure yours to be sure b4 u enter into garage with cargo box attached.

You do realize that garage openings are standard right? It is a very good question, given that spec heights are all published.

You do realize that this is a 9 year old thread, right?

However, we can't assume that the OP's conception of "standard" is indeed, an "industry standard". Maybe in his neighborhood, they all have 6-1/2' doors and he thinks that is standard. Actual measurements are the only thing that works. Plus, how do we know what "box" he has - as it sounds like he already purchased one, from the way it was worded. I have a cargo box and a 7' door and there is no way it will clear.

But the best answer is/was "Just measure it your gosh darned self".
