GL hiss rear entertainment system earphones

I took delivery of my '09 GL 320 2 weeks ago and love it. My kids love it (more specifically the read seat entertainment system) too. They've used it with nothing but glee. Yesterday I had occasion to ride in the back seat for the first time (been driving all other times.) Of course I couldn't resist donning the earphones to watch a DVD - Apollo 13. I immediately noticed a rather annoying background hiss. Of course it worsen if I tilted my head beyond the range of the IR transmitter (presumably in the screen) but I could not make it better or elimniate the hiss no matter what position I assumed. I swapped sides, headsets and changed the headset batteries in a wasted attempt to fix this problem. The saleman at the dealer acknowledged the hiss when I stopped in to show him, but said, "I've never had a problem like this before." Yeah, and I've NEVER had a salesman tell me that when his product is suspect for a defect!Has anyone had a similar problem? Thanks!

I had something similar with the audio jack. Here is a link to another forum where I posted the problem and fix that was done. I haven't had a problem with the static since this was done.

Update: Dealers says, "They all do it." So it's OK?

I was justified in raising that flag in my original post; after "looking into" the hiss I complained about in the MB Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system the dealer told me they'd checked other [MB] vehicles with similar wireless systems and, "...they all [hiss] to some degree." Well....am I to infer that makes it OK?

Not a chance!!! If something's got the MB logo on it, then I expect the same level of quality that makes me buy stuff with the MB logo on it! Would any MB owner accept a pretty loud baseline hiss in the front seat audio system? If I'd wanted a crappy RSE system with an intrinsic hiss I could have spent a lot less on any one of the plethora of aftermarket boxes.

The dealer is going to "...continue to work with MB on this..." to see if they can get it resloved. I hope nobody's going to wait by their computer for good news in that regard.

More to come...

BTW, I do like these little icons

The dealer surrenders

The dealer's Service Advisor advised me today that they can't do anthing about the hiss in the RSE; "It seems to be intrinsic in all the vehicles we have with a similar wireless system." I asked if it's a defect, "No, I don't think it's a defect, it's in all the vehicles."

I thanked him for all his hard work in trying to sort out this problem and suggested it's time to elevate it to the next level. He seemed relieved and happily provided an 800 number so I can call MB to pusue this with them.

More to come.
