3rd Row, Left side won't lock!!!

The switch works properly and the seat back goes up and down. But raised all the way, it won't lock (I can still push it down with my hand). Anyone experience this? Would love to save a trip to the dealer.

A while back had the same problem.Tried lowering the seat, it would go down and pop back up a few inches without locking, it would lock if you pushed it down. Removed the plastic cover under the seat and sure enough there was a #@%*! Mc'donalds toy under the seat. Solved the problem. (actually try looking under seat first without removing the cover, to put the cover back is a pain...)

thanks for the advice. Nothing under the seat that I could see. I guess I need to remove the plastic cover - or trip to the dealer

Having the exact same issue in our 2008 GL320---left rear seat won't lock. Sometimes the motor assembly will not move the seat up or down either without a little "push". This is on our list to have the dealer fix on our first "B" service coming up in about 800 miles.

BEWARE CHILDSEAT PLASTIC ANCHOR COVERS

If your 3rd row seat won't go all the way down (or attempts to go down and then pops back up a few inches), make sure you can account for every childseat plastic anchor cover in the entire car (there should be 11 of them or so). This forum saved me a lot of headache just now when it was suggested a small toy may be under the 3rd row seat. I noticed that the plastic anchor covers for that seat were missing. What happened is that someone removed the covers and did not replace them properly, so when the seat was lowered, both covers fell under the seat. One of them got jammed under the hinge and wouldn't let the seat go all the way down. A wire hanger and a flashlight are the ticket for getting them out without having to mess with trying to remove the plastic shield that protects the front of the underseat on the 3rd row.

By the way, this is an interesting design flaw. The plastic anchor covers will fall under the 3rd row seats every time if they are not locked in properly.

Son's rubber eraser jammed in the mechanism. Opened the pivoting cover, Voila! took out the eraser, seat locks in place now.

2008 GL450 third row seat won't lock

My 2008 GL450 third row seat (left) won't lock. I replaced the motor so the seat moves up and down. However, it bounces an inch or two when down and up. It won't lock in place either down or up. I've completely removed the seat several times and there are no plastic parts (toys or other) underneath the seat. I could not fully see if anything is under the "carpet" but did not see or feel anything. The right side seat works fine and locks in both the up and down positions.

Any suggestions on why it doesn't lock either up or down?

I haven't fixed the problem yet. A mechanic suggested that I remove the seat/motor, rotate the motor a few degrees and reinstall. He thought that might fix it. Will likely try that in the next few weeks.

I am trying to figure out how to remove the seat. If you figure it out, I would love to hear. Thanks again for the update! :-)

any luck Gary? Mine acts like a weak motor, needs help getting fully up and won't lock in either position. Actually skips, clack clack clack, when trying to lie flat.
Had the seat out and the motor bracket was loose but tightening didn't change anything. Definitely no toys or seatbelts anchor covers stuck...

Bit of advice needed.

So, I picked up an 07 GL320 yesterday and it had the same issue. Have cleaned everything out I can without removing covers and still no joy. I did find this large spring loose under there and am wondering if it is part of the seat mechanism?
its approx 5inches long by 1/2 inch
