Need advice on new 2010 GL 450

I have a 2008 GL 450 and the lease is about to mature. I have played with current residuals and rates to get a idea of payments to expect on a new lease. Does anyone know of any current offers (other than the .00124 lease rate for 36 months) Is there any holdback dollars for the dealers for December? Any help would be appreciated - I am looking at a MSRP of around $70K how much do you think I can get knocked off $6K - $7K maybe? The other problem is there is not many GL 450's in inventory in So-cal and the dealers can hold more margin because they do not have to get rid of the cars as fast as they used to. Please let me know what you guys and girls think.

Thank You

My lease will expire on my 2007 GL450 in March. I though I might want a GL350 Diesel for the mileage. I drove one yesterday and was disappointed with the power. It was also noisier at idle but not too bad. I don't really think the diesel is for me and and back to looking for a 450.

I was really hoping I would like it and also I was hoping for something a bit better than my 2007 450. Other than the engine the car seemed almost exactly the same. The Nav was a little different but that's about it. I would really just about as soon keep my 2007 except for my high residual value.

Disappointed with the power? Off the line it has more pull than the GL550! Depends on how you drive but seriously, you spend 99% of your time at less than full power, so unless you don't care how much you pay for that last 1% then buy the 450! By my calc's the 350 will save me $5,000 in gas over 4 or 5 years. I can have a lot of fun with that $5,000 that doesn't involve more profit for the oil companies.

Two things, the diesel responds better to slower throttle application to spool up the turbo, which paradoxically will get you moving faster than mashing it. It takes some practice. Second, the engine tends to loosen up a bit with use and will also pick up some pep.

I agree with you about the gas savings, that is why I was looking at the diesel. I think it is possible the savings could be more than $5000 over 3 years. I guess everyone drives differently, but the power difference seemed very obvious IMO. Look at the 0 to 60 times, there is over a 2 second difference.

This is my wifes vehicle but I end up driving it quite a bit and the diesel just didn't do it for me.

Brockton,
The above response was to DucatiNut as I didn't see your post until after I posted. I'm still thinking about the diesel a little bit. Another factor is the cost of the vehicle, and in my area it seems dealers are less willing to deal on a loaded diesel than a standard GL450. The link I posted above is a dealer about 400 miles from me and my local dealer couldn't even find a diesel with the color and options I want.

Suit yourself, I had the same fears as you after the first drive, but I have never wanted for more power in any passing or merging situation I have faced in two years of ownership. Then, again don't buy a car you hate, either.

Same situation on the west coast, dealers less willing to negotiate; because people want them more than the 450 / 550

Of course that is precisely why they (the 320s) will hold their value more than the 450s. Any model year and comparable mileage and condition. That, in turn means that your trade-in value will be higher when the time comes for you to spring for another. Lots of bucks saved!!
I agree that the 0-60 times are 2 sec less for the 320 but unless you ALWAYS have to beat the other guy off the line at a light it really doesn't matter. Where acceleration is of more significance is when you may want to pass another car on a two lane road with limited sight distance. There you are more concerned about the time (distance really) from 40-70 mph. I think the 450 will only be fractionally faster because the peak torque of both engines is almost the same! The real point is that the differences don't come into play very much in the real world!

Interesting discussion. I just went today for my Service B. My salesman called me, said they have someone looking for a used one like mine and it's time to go for a 2010.

My response was I'd consider a diesel (since that's what I originally wanted, but settled for a great deal on a 450) and I wanted it loaded just like my 450. They did a search and said there weren't hardly any diesels in the midwest.

I didn't come home with a new GL. I've got 55,000 miles on my 07 and haven't had a single thing wrong so figured I'd stay with the known good ride.
