Running Board Install

Running Board Install
MY GL450, 2007 currently has Tabular style site steps and I have just ordered OEM running boards for it. I have noticed that Site Steps were installed by cutting a hole in that black plastic cover. Do I need to replace the plastic cover and/or the running board package will have everything I need. If you have any suggestion or recommendation about this install then please let me know as well.
Thank you all in advance.

I installed the running board package on my 2007 GL450 last fall. No cutting or drilling is required. In the package are all of the parts that you'll need, including a large bag containing +/- 50 assorted nuts ,bolts, washers, grommets, 4 new jack lift pads, etc. Unfortunately, no instructions were included. The first side took about 2 hours to figure out and install, the second side took 20-30 minutes.

I think if you have basic tools such as ratchet with 10mm socket (long) and screw driver, you should be able to do it and save yourself a $300 to 500 for installation.
When you get the runningboard kits from dealer, you will see how all the parts will go in. Basically, there are 3 parts for each side;
1. a metal piece that attaches to the car body after you remove rocker panel
2. actual aluminum with rubber piece that covers that metal piece
3. a plastic rail that goes under the body to protect underbody and to secure jack mount.
Like others said, raise your vehicle first. once you install the first piece, you will laugh how easy it was.
Tip: If you plan to sell rocker panel, then have your a putty knife handy, you can use it to release tabs when you remove the rocket panel. otherwise, you could just pull them out of your vehicle (you will break those plastic tabs however, you will save some time.)
