2011 GL 350-Lighting Pkg-P2-Parktronic-Blind spot assist-Heated everything-Running brds ,etc
I am getting a new GL350 tonight, the dealer is trying to sell me the prepaid maintenence (as well as lots of other stuff). The description doen't give a lot of details, they claim it saves you around 30%, but don't show any number to back the claim.
This is the full description they sent me
"Mercedes-Benz Star Service Prepaid Maintenance 3yr/30k: $769, 4yr/40k: $1760, yr/50k: $1942 By prepaying for your services, customers can guard against potential future parts and service increases while enjoying the peace of mind. Prepaid Maintenance is good Nationwide!"
do any of the experts around here have any thoughts on this? I don't think I want it unless some can make a good case for it that shows savings

A couple reason why you should never do a prepay plan:
1. You car gets totaled/stolen. You've now paid for a service that you've never used!
2. You trade in your car early/sell/use less than intended...again, paying for something you'll never use.
3. Here in LA, at least, you have a ton of dealerships/independent mechanics who are very competitive...you almost definitely save money paying as you go. Perhaps if you live in an area with only one MB dealer it makes more sense.
4. Not related, but when shopping for a new E350 yesterday, the dealer quoted me $1500 for the plan - saying A service was $400 and B service $600 - on their own website it was $190 and $380! Also wanted $1400 for tire warranty!

my 2 cents
I have owned an 08 C300, 10 GLK 350, 11 GLK 350 and now just took delivery of a 12 ML 350. THe ML is the first one I bought the pre paid maintenance for. However there is a catch. I paid a la carte for all the above and for the 10, 20 & 30 you do save about 300-400 by bundling them. The 1000 bump for the 40 which does include the trans service cost me about 750-800. So I could not see paying through 40k miles.
Hope this helps somone
