GL 450 Infa-Red windshield And Radar Detectors
My 07 GL450 has the infared glass option. I have found the uncoated section in the windshield. Two concerns . this requires the dectector to be mounted low and obstructs the rear vision of the detector with 2 rows of seats/headrests and a long way to the rear glass in this full size SUV.
The Escort 9500ix has a GPS antenna built into the top of the dectector. While the front of the ESCORT is seeing through the "peep hole " of the infa- red coated windshield the top(GPS) is not. . It can take 15 minutes of driving before the GPS of the ESCORT 9500ix locks into a signal and starts working to remember false alarms and using the database they boast about. My drive to work is 10 minutes. I understand ESCORT uses 4 satelites and I am in the Western Hemisphere (CA) another concern while I am in the 30 day trial of the ESCORT 9500ix
Anyone share the same concerns as me with this issue?

I don't see a workaround for your detector. I have a Valentine mounted low ( near the sun angle sensor ) and the front and rear detectors work fine, even with full load of passengers and luggage , as long as I don't pack the center of the rear high enough to obscure visibility .
As you know, there is a larger IR " opening " to the left of the rear view mirror as well as a smaller one to its right for toll plaza transponders, which with the glass angle could allow your unit to work better , but you'd probably have to fabricate a custom plastic "shelf "mount snug against against the headliner , as suction/clip mounts that come with detectors will hang the detector below those openings .
