Best aftermarket touch-screen unit?

Hey guys,

I really had it with the 2007 COMMAND unit (understatement of the year).

I used to own a Lexus GX470 and while I do prefer the ride and handling of the GL450, I really miss the touch-screen-based central console I had in my Lexus. The MB's unit is a joke in comparison.

Over the years, I've owned many German and Japanese vehicles, and I have to admit that our fine rides unfortunately don't hold a candle to the electronic gizmos that I had in my Lexus or even in my wife's Ody. I guess this is hardly surprising since this is after all the land of Nintendo and Sony Playstations!

Now do we have a list of quality aftermarket nav/radio/XM/cd/dvd units that are:
1) touch-screen based NAV / controls
2) provide integration for rear-seat DVD entertainment
3) provide integration for ipod/aux connectors (say in glove cptmt)
4) provide AM/FM/Satellite, CD/DVD/compact flash multimedia
5) bluetooth connectivity

I checked on CNET and other similar sites for reviews, but I'm more inclined to get some feedback from people who have gone the aftermarket route, e.g. Apline, Sony, Pioneer (AVIC is pretty good I hear), and to hear of any integration issues you might have encountered.

Thanks and have a great Mother's day weekend!

Ben

Ben,

I installed an AVIC in 2005 in my '99 LX470. It was quite a unit. What I might suggest is you will loose a little bit of functionality with things like the instrument-based turn-by-turn. I don't know if you already have a backup camera but you'd be able to get one for the new unit if you didn't.

But (and I could be way off here), isn't the COMAND the way certain functions of the system are controlled?
