Boat trailer issues

Boat trailer issues
I hooked up my boat today and had some electrical problems between the MB and the boat trailer.
First issue installed a 7 pin to 5 pin adapter in the MB receptacle. No lighting on the boat trailer worked, added a ground wire from the trailer to the underbody of the MB and everything worked. Do I need a special adapter (From MB?) to get a good ground connection?
Second issue, I have LED tail lights on the boat trailer. With ground attached both of the LED tail lights lit up slightly. Just a dim broken line of lights. I believe it is a common problem but didn't lnow what terms to search on.
Any suggestions?

Every European SUV has the same issue. No need to search, just ring up your local hitch place and they will have a solution. Yes, it is hard to search if you don't know what exactly you are looking for...
I have towed with Land Rovers (2 of) and my GL. My patented solution: use incandescent bulbs, not LEDs.

I never said I didn't try to use the search feature, I said I didn't know the terms that would lead to a successful search. Trailer lights, trailer ground, LED lights were unsuccessful on Two different MB forums.
